A week went by, and still no conversation was had regarding the pills. Luke and I were back to our normal routine, as if nothing had changed… including our s*x life. Since the night of the party, we had s*x two or three more times, without protection, and Luke had not once asked his normal question during foreplay. I began to forget about that obvious elephant in the room, until the mornings when I would open my vanity drawer and see that pill pack staring at me, untouched for the last eight days.
At work, Ella kept asking me if Luke and I had gotten to talk about it yet, and everyday I told her “no.” She of course, was trying to be the voice of reason telling me to bring it up over dinner that night or while watching TV in the evening. But every night I ignored her advice and just let it slide for another day. Part of me thought that maybe it wasn’t a bad thing. Maybe I would get pregnant and we would never need to have this dreaded conversation. After all, nothing had changed between my husband and I, so why bring it up?
Two more weeks went by and it was the eve of our second anniversary. I purposely booked an appointment to get my nails done and my hair trimmed, as Luke always planned some sort of grand gesture for our anniversary that I wanted to look nice for. I got my nails done in a beautiful ruby red colour to match Luke’s favourite lipstick that I would wear the next day. At my hair appointment I decided to get some layers added to the ends of my hair, and got the hair dresser to give me a blow out so that I would look fresh for the next day. I was so excited to celebrate this special occasion with my sweetheart husband!
By the time I left my appointment it was 7:30pm. I decided it would be too late to cook supper, so I picked up some Pad Thai from our favourite local spot just a few minutes down the road. The spicy smell was taking over the entire car by the time I pulled into our driveway. When I walked inside I was shocked to find an empty house, since Luke should have been home by now. I grabbed my phone and called his cell phone. On the second ring he answered, “hi babe! I’m sorry I’m late, I promise I’m almost home.” It’s like he could read my mind. A few minutes later while I was taking off my work clothes upstairs, I heard the garage door opening. I finished changing and proceeded to the stairs where I was greeted by my husband’s smiling face. “Your hair looks great!” He exclaimed. I thanked him and wrapped my arms around his neck. He was still standing two stairs from the top, meaning we were almost the same height. He hugged me back tightly. “What kept you at work so late?” I asked. He explained that one of his clients, who he was designing a condo building for, had run late to a meeting and didn’t arrive until nearly 6pm, forcing him to stay late to go over the design plan. When he finished explaining, he scooped me up and carried me down the stairs to the kitchen and plopped me onto one of our bar stools at the island. “Let’s eat!” He said as he grabbed some plates from the cupboard. We ate together moaning over the deliciousness of our food. When we finished I expected Luke to head out for his nightly run, but he didn’t. Instead he cleaned up from our meal, packed up the leftovers for lunch the next day and settled into the couch, where I joined him. I crossed my legs across his lap before asking “so, what are we doing for our anniversary tomorrow?” He gave me a smug look before replying “you’ll see!”. I rolled my eyes at him before grabbing a blanket off of the back of the seat and cuddling deeper into the couch. We watched two episodes of our show before heading up to bed together. I loved when we got take out for dinner, since there was no dishes to be done, I used it as an excuse to get in bed with Luke and cuddle. We cuddled until we both fell asleep.
The next day was Friday, I was shocked when I was woken up by Luke’s lips pressing against the back of my neck. “Wake up beautiful” he whispered. Still in a sleepy fog, I rolled over to be facing him and asked why he hadn’t left for work. That’s when he explained that he had taken the day off, and arranged with my school’s principal for me to have the day off as well! Hearing those words made me wake right up. Before I could ask any more questions, I felt Luke’s hand slide up my thigh until it was touching my panties under my night gown. He began to massage my c**t with his fingers, making me press my body against his and I pressed my lips against his neck. He kept massaging until he heard me moan loudly into the crease of his neck. He then slid my underwear to the side and pressed one finger inside of me. He began to tease me with that finger, making me use my hand to press his hand down harder. He teased me until I couldn’t bare it anymore, so I whispered “f**k me” into his ear. He rolled on top of me before saying “no, I just want to please you.” His head disappeared below our duvet, and I felt his tongue join his finger. He knew how to lick all of the right spots, and before long I was climaxing. I started screaming his name as he pleased me with his fingers and caressed me with his tongue. “I’m going to c*m!” I yelled and just moments later I orgasmed loudly. How did this never get old? Luke reappeared with a look of satisfaction on his face. He laid on my chest looking up to me and sweetly said “happy anniversary sweetie, I love you even more today than the day I married you.” How did I ever get so lucky?
We laid there for a while before getting up to start our day. Luke told me to wear something nice, so I showered and put on a tight black pencil skirt with a blouse the same colour and strapped on some heals to finish the look. My hair still looked amazing from my appointment the day before and I lathered on some makeup and my red lipstick before joining him downstairs. “Where are we going?” I said eagerly. He grabbed my hand and silently led me to his car. He started driving and before long I noticed that we were heading towards the city. It took about an hour before we arrived at the river front. We got out and began walking along the river, holding hands and happily laughing together. I always loved being downtown, but never made a point of coming down here since we had moved to the suburbs. After a relaxing walk, we turned away from the water and began to walk amongst the sky rises until we reached our favourite Italian Restaurant. I think Luke saw my eyes light up and he smiled at me while he opened the door and gestured me inside. We had a delicious meal there together, sipped on some red wine and just enjoyed each other’s company.
It was mid afternoon by the time we left the restaurant, again we began walking to another unknown destination. We stopped along the way at various boutiques, gawking at the various luxury clothing brands, handmade pottery and speciality leather shops. Finally we arrived at the Institute of Art. My favourite place in all of Detroit. I was an avid art lover and found it so peaceful to take in the different paintings along the walls of this old building. Luke, on the other hand, knew nothing about art and could care less if he ever stepped foot in this building, but he did it for me. He had taken me here on one of our first dates and had frequently brought me back because he knew how much joy it brought to me. We spent nearly two hours taking in the various displays throughout the museum before I finally turned to Luke and said “Ice cream?” We headed down the street to a speciality ice cream shop, picked out our favourite flavours and made our way back to the riverfront to finish our treats. It was now dusk and the daylight was fading. The crowd on the waterfront had disappeared and it felt like we were the only ones left in the city. We found a bench not far from our car and sat shoulder to shoulder licking up the rest of our dessert. Once finished I rested my head on Luke’s shoulder and thanked him for such a lovely day. I closed my eyes just to take in the moment. I could hear the bustling of the city around us but it still felt like we were the only two people left. Suddenly I felt Luke’s hand on my thigh, sliding up under the edge of skirt. My eyes shot open and as I turned to look at him he kissed me. As we kissed he grabbed my chin to pull my mouth open and I felt his tongue press into my mouth, my body tensed as my senses began to tingle. I pulled away, realizing that we were still in a very public place. That’s when Luke looked at me, his eyes dead set on mine and he said “what do you say we get out of here and go make that baby?” And so we did…
