CHAPTER SIXTEEN

1152 Words
The golden cup on my table lost its gold immediately after John left the room. Maybe the sun also thinks John is not bright enough for this job. Just as my heart kept jumping from one topic to another, I got up facing my wardrobe while Freya cleaned up after me. I know that look on your face my Queen, you are still doubting my brother, and you think he will disappoint you someday. Freya held the plate in her hands smiling, But I am here to say that nothing of such would ever happen, i have known you ever since you were a kid, how you helped your father win battles. Your struggles and responsibilities and I am here to tell you my Queen, it’s time to boss down and stop handling things of the throne with so much energy. It’s time to refill your own cup, you have no enemy coming for the throne now, you should build your fathers business, treat yourself to the good things of life. She kept speaking while clearing the dishes slowly. Oh and Brian? You are the queen, Ava you shouldn’t be scared to be with a man that you love, my pink gown escaped my hands as my gazed locked in with hers. Oh my queen, you don’t have to be all that here, it is just you and I in this room, I have seen the way you behave around him. And I think you should give it a chance my queen, remember you are the queen, but you are also Ava and you have to prioritise both the pack and your own happiness. It’s enough Freya, my gaze and body frame turned back to the wardrobe accordingly not because I wanted a dress but because I was hiding my joy. Have a nice day my queen, that was the last thing I heard before hearing my room door jolt at itself. I kept searching for what I don’t need in the wardrobe. I can’t lie that I don’t feel a certain ease and joy in my belly, not because of the feelings her words brought to me but because she is the only person that has cared about me since my father left. I let my feelings be known? What if Brian fails me just as Lucas? I have to keep him in a way that he won’t find an opportunity to leave me, I thought while I slid into my long red gown. It lapped my body and brought out my curves which made me smile while looking at the mirror. knock! Knock! My imaginary mind was forced to leave such a dimension as soon as the knock surfaced on my door. Who is there? It’s John. Come in! I said while heading for my chair, John stormed in, his perfect physique and scent greeted my room coming into Lawrence, he said while helping a partially blind man into my room. Who is this John? And why is a blind man in my room? His name is Lawrence my Queen and he doesn’t like being called blind. He is the secret spy that you need for Cindy’s case. John said with no smile on his face which gave me a headache, my gaze never seemed to leave this Lawrence of a man. To me he holds no value, John I don’t think I want to work with this man, he is blind to me and I know you can see it clearly. No my queen, trust me he is… it’s enough I have heard you, but I won’t be needing his services, discharge him and prepare yourself. We are heading to my fathers firm. You don’t want to give me a chance, my queen? It’s alright. I hope you don’t come looking for me in the future, because I won’t be available anymore. No Mr Lawrence I won’t be needing that just find your way out of my room, okay my queen, mr Lawrence bowed before leaving my room with John. Prepare yourself John, we are heading to my father’s firm in a few hours. I got up slowly heading to my shoe rack, not minding what John’s reaction was saying. Yes ma! I would be waiting for you outside, he said before the door made a jolting sound. I sat on my bed and the thoughts on how to develop my fathers old firm and reconcile with Brian filled my heart. ‘‘Should I go to his apartment? Oh my goodness, what if I find him undressed? Cooking in his big kitchen with just his boxer, oh no Ava you would definitely turn yourself on’’. But it’s not a bad thing to have makeup s*x Ava, you are going to enjoy it like the previous night. Hmmm so yummy I glanced at Brian’s old shirt from the previous night. My mind couldn’t contain my body anymore but I called myself back to reality and tied up my shoe lace, I grabbed the shirt along with me before dashing out the door. I stepped outside my father’s luxurious apartment which now belongs to me, the shining sun showed no mercy but I didn’t mind I had to glance at my father’s chambers before entering into the car. The smell from the car gave me a nostalgic feeling. It's like I could feel my dad’s presence with me. John noticed how my aura changed from being bony to being soft. The driver drove at a normal speed, the city humming past us like a familiar song I hadn’t listened to in a while. I rested my head against the leather seat, fingers tightening around Brian’s shirt as if it might disappear if I loosened my grip. “John,” I said softly. “Yes, ma,” he replied but his eyes were still fixed on the road, I hesitated and my lips parted and closed again. My Pride wrestled with impulse, and impulse was winning far too easily. “Branch at the next junction,” I finally said. “We’re not going to the firm.” John glanced at me through the rear mirror, carefully and, respectfully. “Where to, ma?” I exhaled slowly, the decision settling into my chest like a quiet confession. “Brian’s place.” There was a brief pause just long enough for him to understand this wasn’t a casual change of plans. Then he nodded once. “Very well.” The car turned, tires gliding smoothly onto the new route. My heart followed the motion, thumping harder with every street we passed. I looked out the window, watching the buildings blur, wondering whether I was walking toward comfort or chaos. I straightened in my seat, smoothing my dress, lifting my chin. Whatever waited at the end of this drive either it be anger, silence, or something softer, I would face it with my head-on.
