Chapter 3: Heartthrob

The next day I am sitting in study hall, trying to concentrate on my calculus work, when I am taken out of my thoughts as someone walks up and puts my phone on my desk. I look up wide-eyed to see a guy with short blond hair.” H-how did you get that?” “I was told to bring it here and look for a girl with your description. My name is Ky and you are?” “Umm, I’m Sintia Cross, thank you for returning my phone.” I don’t know what to think, should I be worried or thankful? After yesterday morning I am still not sure what I got myself into. When I look back up he is gone. Now I am really confused. I start wondering about what happened yesterday as I look out the window.

As it turns out Zan is in all of my classes so far but one. He likes to sit next to me for some reason he only talks to me in between classes, which I am grateful for as I like to actually get my work done Less I have to do at home. Walking together we talk a little and get to know each other better. We find that we have a lot in common. Don’t think I didn’t notice all the girls glaring at me, if looks could kill I sure as hell would be dead 10 times over by now. Zan must be one of the schools' heartthrobs, and here I am the new girl swooping in as they would call it, but I really don’t care. He is the only one who has actually spoken to me since I got here, without hostility.

I like the fact that there is a bond growing between us, the fact he is like a god is just an added bonus. “Hey Zen? What is there to do in this town anyway? I am kind of getting bored sitting at home, my parents are always working, so there isn’t much to do at my house.” He looks at me as he thinks, “why not join a club, it will give you something to do after school, plus you might make more friends. What do you like to do?” he asks. I think for a minute. “Hmm well, I love to dance, sing, anything to do with music I also play the bass guitar.” I stop to think more, I “like sports but never had a chance to play on a team.” He looks at me with a smile then says, ”Damn girl, is there anything you don’t like?” I laugh, “No not really, I love anything to do with living and try to live it to the fullest, however, I don’t really care for people.

He gently stops me by holding my arm, and looks at me with a raised eyebrow, “ why don’t you like people? I mean it's kind of hard to avoid them.” I shrug my shoulders and look down, “I don’t know, I find most come with an agenda. They are thoughtless, cowardice, power hungry and feel like they are owed everything, and some think life is based off looks and what they can get from others. I don’t think kindness and love exist in the world anymore, though I am hopeful that one day they will come back.” Zan takes my chin with his thumb and finger gently lifting my head to look into his eyes Hurt evident in them then asks. “Is that what you think of me as well?” I shake my head looking into his eyes, “No Zan, though I don’t know you well. I think you are a kind and thoughtful person who lives by their mind and heart. I don’t think you could or would hurt someone, I feel I was lucky to have met someone like you.” I watch as a smile comes across his face, eyes lighting up. “Thank you Sin, I am glad I do not fall in with the others. Come, let me introduce you to some people, maybe you will see the same in them as you do me and since it is now lunch, there is no time like the present.”

We start walking again to the cafeteria. After getting our lunches we head towards a table but before we make it there my lunch tray is knocked out of my hands and I am knocked to the ground. The cafeteria chatter stops. I get up seeing Zan standing in front of me, I am shocked because I hear a very loud Growl. I look around not sure where it was coming from but soon it was gone. I look around Zan to see the guy from class and after school the day before. I don’t even remember his name or last name or whatever, he wasn’t important enough to remember. I move Zan aside and look at the guy. A little pissed, he decided to once again put his hands on me, “ What is with you? First yesterday you slapped my ass, now today you push me to the ground? Do you love picking on women? Does it make you feel tough? Didn’t I warn you that if you touched me again you would regret it?”

He looked at me up and down a smirk on his face, “ You have no Idea who you humiliated yesterday in class. I told you, you would pay b***h” I looked at him, a smile on my face. I did a curtsy with a slight bow, standing back upright, I continued, “I am so sorry your grace what was your name again princess. Princess sorry I am drawing a blank, what was your name again? I stopped paying attention as you where getting kicked out of class for slapping my ass. “You little b***h!” he yelled as he lunged at me, his fist coming to my face, I grabbed it twisted it then punched him in the face instead, knocking him on his ass. The entire cafeteria roared with laughter pointing at the guy now on the floor. I walked over to him bending down, I took his wallet out of his back pocket, taking out just enough to pay for my lunch. Looking down at his shocked expression I said, “This should cover my Lunch that is now all over the floor. “s I start walking away I pause and look over my shoulder at him, then say, ”Oh hey, be a doll when you get up and clean that for me”, I say pointing to the mess of my lunch he made on the floor. The roar of laughter had gotten even louder.

After getting a new Lunch tray I walk over to Zan who is still standing there staring at me with a mixed look of shock and amusement on his face, “So what table are we going to?” I asked looking at him with a smile. “Oh, ah. this way.” He leads us to a table there are 7 people sitting there only two I recognize, Britney and Ky, Britney is sitting on someone’s lap and hadn’t noticed me. Whereas Ky looked at me with a smile and a raised eyebrow, then looked away. Zan started to introduce me, “everyone, this is Sintia. Sintia I’d like to introduce you to Ky who you have met, then Britney, Under her is Kade,” that’s when Kade snapped his head in my direction standing up. Knocking Brit to the floor, she stood up scowling at me, yelling at Kade “what the hell Kade?” but he paid no attention to her. He walked over to me and wrapped his arms around me kissing me on the cheek. I pushed him off and wiped my face, what is it with the guys in this school I thought, I was taken out of my thoughts when I heard Britney screaming, “ Why are you kissing that b***h for Kade, you're mine, Don't ignore me. KADE!!! Still, he paid her no attention. He took my tray, placing on the table then took my hands, I immediately took them back and placed them in my pockets obvious that I am uncomfortable with him touching me, he put his hand on his neck scratching it before saying, “I am truly grateful to you nothing more, I owe you my life.” I looked at him surprised, “what do you mean? I never met you in my life.” “I said you have, you just don’t know it. I was the wolf in the woods yesterday, the one you helped and saved,” he told me with a gleam in his eyes and a big smile on his face. I looked around the room shocked, he laughed and said “don’t worry, we are all supernatural born at this school, the whole town mostly. We all live in peace here. I am soon to be Alpha of the Bloodfang Pack. I was attacked by Rouges while I on a run and if it hadn’t been for you, I would be dead.” “Oh. umm, you don’t need to thank me, I am sure I did nothing anyone else wouldn’t have done in my place.” By now Brit was next to Kade watching him, I guess there was something she saw she didn’t like because the look she gave me was, if possible, worse than yesterday. I looked at her, happy to see there was no permanent damage to her nose, I really did feel bad.

I looked at her, “Hey I am really sorry about yesterday. I didn’t mean to hit you with the door, they really need to put frosted glass in it so others would know someone is coming out,” It seems it wasn’t as bad as I thought. She was about to say something but cut off when a girl said: “Hey, I thought you said she punched you for bumping into her?” Then another voice piped up saying “I thought you said she jumped you in the bathroom? Something about acting like a rabid animal.” I looked at him, annoyed but not really mad. I mean I know how people work, I just stood there looking at her, then Kade spoke up “Britney apologize now!” “Kade, you really can't expect me to apologize to that, I did nothing wrong.. besides she is a freak. No one wants her around anyway, her scent is even off. She is clearly a bloodsucker but her scent doesn't match.”

Kade looked at her with hate and disgust then said in a louder voice “NOW BRITNEY! I WON’T SAY IT AGAIN!” Britney whimpered and submitted to his word, looks at me and says with a hateful glare “I’m sorry” then walked off. After that, I met Zan’s sister Willa, and a few others. Willa sat next to me, “Hey wanna hang out sometime? We are going clubbing later you're welcome to join if you like and don’t worry we don’t stay out late just long enough to blow off some steam.” I smile and accept her offer. I can't wait, a real night out. She took my phone and called hers and vice versa, then saved the contact info in each phone. After she handed mine back, she smiled and said “see you later” then walked off.

The rest of the day once again was uneventful. The usual stares and glares, that was it, that is till I got out to my bike there was a note taped it, I picked it up and read it. It said

“Now I know where you live, does it make you feel safe living in the middle of nowhere?”

Then I felt a heated gaze on the back of my head but when I turned around no one was there. I crumpled up the note and threw it in a trash bin close by.

I then headed home to get ready for my first ever night out with people my own age.
