I couldn't walk.
Four legs should be easier than two but they weren't. My front left kept crossing over my right. I stumbled. Fell. Got up. Fell again.
"This is humiliating," I said. It came out as a whine.
"You're doing great," Parrot said. "For a newborn baby deer."
"Not helping."
"I'm never helping. That's not my job."
Nero was standing a few feet away. Human form. Naked. Watching the tree line.
Before I could answer, they came pouring out of the trees like a flood. Ten. Twenty.
These creatures were bigger. Wrong. Like someone took wolves and broke them. Rebuilt them into something worse.
Their claws were too long. Their teeth too sharp. Their eyes too intelligent.
"Oh f**k," Parrot said. "We're gonna die."
"Last chance to walk away," he said.
