Chapter 11
"Lizzie?" A voice said. I soon recognised it to be Shane's I wonder what he wants...
"Shane?" I questioned confused. Why is he calling?
"Where is everyone else?" He asked.
"They haven't come back yet. It's only me and Trisha. Trisha has fallen asleep she was pretty wasted." I explained. I looked at the time and saw that it was edging to 3 in the morning. I had been down here for less than an hour.
I heard him groan on the other side of the phone.
"Is everything alright?" I asked not really sure on what to say.
"I... um..." He trailed.
"Where are you at the bar?" I asked.
"No, I'm in jail." He said.
Woah that was unexpected. What was he doing in jail?
"What are you doing in jail Shane?" I asked.
"I got into this fight. Could you tell one of the guys to bail me out when they come over?" He asked. I thought for a second. I might fall asleep and I don't know when they'll be back. So he would probably be out in hours to come which could be bad for him.
"Do you want me to bail you out? I don't mind. It's just that I don't know when they are coming back and they probably just pass out or something so you would be in for a while." I explained.
It felt weird talking to Shane. I hadn't really talked to him before like this. A normal conversation.
"Ur..." He trailed not really sure on what to say. Hmmm... He usually knows on what to say.
"I don't mind I’m not exactly tired or pissed drunk," I said.
He then agreed and told me where he was. The line went dead and I grabbed my guitar and went upstairs to get my car keys. I got back downstair exited the boarding house and got into my car. The early morning breeze was comforting but I still put the heater on in my car.
I drove through the streets of New York. The difference between New York and any other city is that it was full of life at night. The city was fully awake.
I drove through the dark streets before I reached the police station. I pulled up and then walked to the building. I entered and approached the main desk.
"I here to bail out Shane Ashby?" I said to the man. He looked up and was a little startled.
"You are Lizzie McGaugh aren't you? What are you doing bailing him out?" He asked.
"He called and I was the only one available to do it everyone else was out," I explained. He nodded.
I gave the payment for bailing Shane out and went with the officer to get him from the cell.
"Shane your girl is here for you." The officer said.
"I'm not his girl..." I said. He ignored me and opened the cell door. There sitting on an old bench was Shane. He was pissed drunk but seemed to be sobering up. He looked at me with a straight face.
"Okay Shane I don't want to see you in here again just because you are famous doesn't mean you could do whatever you want. You were doing good I hadn't seen you in for a few months." The Officer said.
I was aware that Shane was in and out of jail for fights and drink driving. I don't know why he did it but I rather not pry.
He got off the bench and stumbled in his step as he walked to us.
"Come on Lizzie take me home," Shane said and smiled to me flirtatiously.
I sighed I think I'm going to have to deal with drunk Shane for a while.
"Um... Okay." I said awkwardly. The officer smiled.
"Maybe to him you're his and to you, it's a different story." He said. I didn't get it, why does he think we are together?
"We aren't together," I said. Shane barely spoke to me and now we're an item?
I don't think I like the sound of letting someone in...
"Sure thing." He said. He didn't seem to believe me.
"Enough Jason. I want to go home." Shane said. He sounded like a little boy.
"Okay you two kids go I don't want to see you again okay Shane?" The officer- Jason said.
"Okay, okay bye!" He said. They followed me to the entrance of the station. Shane waved to the other officers and then we got outside. I looked behind me to make sure Shane was there. He matched his pace with mine and we walked to my car.
He was stumbling in his step but managed to get to the car without falling.
"Could I drive?" He asked.
"No you can't Shane you are drunk. And I don't think you would want to be visiting jail again." I said. I felt like I was talking to a 5 year telling them they were not allowed take any cookie from the cookie jar.
"Please Lizzie," he said and grabbed me by the waist and made me collide with he chest. He looked at me intensely with his dark eyes. His dark brown hair was getting swept by the careless breeze.
He held me against him for the time being.
"Shane no you are drunk you don't want an accident. Now could you please let go of me?" I said. I knew any girl would kill to be in this position right now but I just wanted to get out of it. He let go of me and pouted.
"Sorry, Shane I just wouldn't want you to get into an accident you know?" I said. He nodded. I opened the passenger door for him to get in.
"Aren't I supposed to be doing this for you?" He asked before he got in.
"If you want to be a gentleman then yes. I am doing it so we can get back to the boarding house." I said and then shut the door. I walked other to the other side and got in and started the car. It was silent. But it was a comfortable silence though.
"You rejected me." He stated, referring to me wanting to get away from him.
"I don't... date or have any sort of relationship like that. So yeah... I guess I rejected..." I said. For some reason, I felt like I could talk to Shane. Like I could open up to him it was weird.
"Why don't you date?" He asked curiously.
"I don't have the time and I like being single." I said.
"Do you think I'm good looking?" He asked. He seemed very straightforward.
I knew Shane was attractive I wasn't going to deny that but I don't go around drooling over him, do I?
"It's not about looks Shane," I said.
"Still do you?"
"Hmmm... I guess anyone could tell that."
"Would you date me?" How straightforward could he get? Maybe it was just because he was drunk?
"I don't date Shane and I don't think you are exactly anything special. Sorry if I am offending you." I said.
He thought for a minute.
"I think I might take offence on that." He muttered. My lips twitched slightly upwards.
"Sorry, Shane," I said.
To be perfectly honest I think I prefer Shane when he is drunk. He isn't looking at me so intensely and seems more sociable.
"Why wouldn't you?" He asked. I sighed this was going to be a long journey back and we were only halfway there.
"Because I like being single and I don't have the time," I repeated.
"We have the same amount of time and I would date me if I was you. Just look at me." He said cockily.
Ah yes, I think Mr Cocky Shane Ashby is coming out.
"As I said it isn't about looks."
"Then what is it about?"
"Personality? Whether you get along with the person. Shane, you could be dating the sexiest or most beautiful girl in the world but they might not be nice or even care about you."
"I guess you have a point there. It reminds me of Stacy."
"As in your girlfriend Stacy?" I said making sure.
"Yep she is hot- sexy but a b***h I must say." He said.
"If you think that of her why are you dating her?"
"I don't know? It just happened." He said and then made a disgusted face.
Another silence settled over us. It was weird knowing Shane even if he was drunk. Let's just hope he doesn't regret talking to me in the morning.
"So you've never been in love huh?" He asked. That took me off guard and I nearly swerved the car. But I quickly regained it.
"Sorry about that. Your question took me off guard and yeah I guess I haven't been in love... You were, weren't you? I don't mean to pry though." I said.
"Yeah, I was 3 years ago..." He trailed. I wanted to know what happened but I could tell the conversation was beyond over. It must be a touchy topic and I respect that. I then reached the boarding house. I parked my car in my usual spot and got out. I got my guitar out from the back and then Shane got out. We silently got into the house.
I looked back to see if he was trailing but he was closer then I thought he was. I could feel the heat off of him radiate on him. He took a step forward causing me to collide in his chest for the second time in the night
I couldn't see his face but I could tell he was smirking.
"If you wanted me all you could do was ask." He said cockily. I rolled my eyes at him.
"Whatever Shane I just turned to see if whether you were following me or if you had wandered off," I said and took a step back so I could no longer smell his cologne.
"I think not. I don't mind company tonight... Are you willing?" He said and wiggled his eyebrows.
"No Shane. I guess I'll call this a night. So goodnight Shane, see you later." I said and then turned around and began to start heading upstairs. I heard him walking behind me and then he grabbed me by my wrist causing me to jerk slightly and about to fall down a couple of steps but instead again colliding into his chest.
For the third time since this morning.
"And now you are falling for me." He said. I straightened myself up and gave him a blank look.
"Shane I'm tired I would like to sleep," I said.
"Okay, Lizzie I'm sorry about my flirting you're better than that. Thanks for bailing me out. Why did you do it anyway?" He asked.
"Because it wouldn't have been fair on you if you had to stay there all night and morning long," I said. He looked at me and a little disappointed.
"Okay, thanks then. I guess and I'm a little loopy care to guide me to my room?" He said. He smirked then and I rolled my eyes again at him.
"Fine Shane." I agreed. His smirk changed to a smile. My lips twitched again but I didn't smile. I turned around and carried on walking up the stairs. We walked silently to his room and I opened the door for him.
"Goodnight Shane I shall see you later," I said.
"Goodnight Izzie. Hmmm... I like that nickname for you. And are you sure you don't want any company today?" He asked. I stiffened slightly at 'Izzie' my little brother used to call me that.
"No, I don't want to, sorry and goodnight," I said. He is such a flirt. But maybe this is only drunk, Shane?
And with that, I opened my bedroom door and began to feel the tiredness. I wasn't bothered to get changed into my pj's.
I lay on my bed and a part of me hoped that Shane would always be like that but obviously that wouldn't happen.
He probably is going back to disliking me tomorrow. I mean later. I glanced at the clock and saw that it was reaching to 4 am. Great, my sleeping pattern is getting jeopardised again. Oh well, it’s always been like this since I became famous anyways.
With that last thought lingering in my mind I fell asleep.
