Kaliyah raised the wood she held, preparing to defend herself. Her heart hammered so hard within her that she feared the intruder would hear it.
Her eyes gradually adjusted to the dark room and she watched as the intruder crept towards the bed. Whoever it was probably thought she was still fast asleep.
To her horror, there were two of them. A man and a woman. Her mind worked frantically, thinking of a way out. She thought of screaming for help and alerting the inn keeper, but she didn't have the strength to fight them off, especially in her delicate condition.
