Chapter 5

It was a wild night for Kaliyah. Soren took her countlessly, and each time he did, the pain lessoned until her body responded to pleasure. He was so gentle, holding her close after each climax, kissing her warmly, whispering words in her ear. For a moment, Kaliyah forgot she took her stepsister's place. She felt like a real bride. But the next morning, reality hit her like a ton of bricks. She woke up with a soft gasp, scanning the room quickly. It was dawn. She slowly turned to her side and realized Soren was still asleep beside her. One arm was wrapped loosely around her waist. His dark hair lay tousled, his eyes shut in deep slumber. Kaliyah lost track of time as she gazed at him. He was a beautiful man. Her fingers itched to tangle in the soft waves of his hair. Her gaze lowered to his lips and she wished she could taste them again. She smiled softly as she remembered the previous night. Soren was an expert in lovemaking, and she wished he would wake up and claim her one last time. She was slowly falling for him, and she wasn't even aware. Suddenly the adjoining room door opened quietly and Yennefer poked her head in. She noticed Kaliyah awake, staring intently at the Alpha, and her eyes nearly popped out. "Kaliyah!" She whispered harshly. Kaliyah's smile disappeared and she whirled around. Seeing Yennefer's furious face, she realized she had lost track of time. Moving slowly, she lifted Soren's arm and slipped off the bed. The she grabbed her discarded dress and jewelry, and rushed towards the door. Yennefer grabbed her arm and pulled her into the other room forcefully. "Are you out of your f*****g mind?" She almost screamed. "We were supposed to switch places at dawn." "I'm sorry... I... I lost track of time." Kaliyah apologized as she put on her dress of the previous day. "I'll deal with you later." Yennefer swore. "I'm going in now. Did the Alpha tell you anything I need to know?" Kaliyah shook her head, hiding her face so Yennefer wouldn't see her tears. But Yennefer noticed it and smiled cruelly. "Don't tell me you've grown fond of him." She mocked. "He's mine, and nothing can change that. You better hide that dress before anyone sees it." Yennefer pushed Kaliyah aside and quickly entered the room. She undressed quickly, pushing the dress to one side. Next she took off her jewelry and tousled her hair. Then she quietly crawled into the bed and lay on her side. When Soren stirred and placed his arm around her, she smiled triumphantly. Her plan had worked perfectly. Meanwhile, Kaliyah couldn't stop sobbing in the other room. She felt used, and she wished she hadn't agreed to Yennefer's plan. But one thing she didn't regret was the passionate love making she shared with Alpha Soren. He had shown her what it meant to be loved by a man. As she sat there lost in thoughts, she heard the doorknob rattle as someone unlocked it. She quickly wiped her eyes and managed to hide the dress behind the large dresser before the door opened and Ophelia stepped in. She took one look at Kaliyah and frowned. "Get out. Yennefer won't need your help anymore." She said to her. "Go begin your chores." Kaliyah bowed a greeting and quietly left the room. It was only a matter of time, she thought. Once Yennefer was gone, she would escape. ... The moment Soren awakened, he knew immediately that something was wrong. He looked towards the girl beside him. Slowly, he took his hand off her. Why was her scent different this morning? Last night, she smelled like a mixture of flowers and the wild forest. Now, all he could perceive was the smell of burnt wood. He rose to his feet and got off the bed. Then his eyes fell on the large bloodstain on the sheets, proof of her innocence. Yet why did it feel like it was someone else on the bed? Yennefer noticed he was awake and she turned to face him, shielding her breasts with the sheets. She smiled at him and stretched. "Good morning, Alpha." Soren's frown deepened. Something was definitely wrong, and he could tell. His bride had acted so shy last night, so timid that she hadn't been able to stare at him. Yet here she was, staring boldly into his eyes. He examined her silently. It was her, yet at the same time, it wasn't. Something had changed. Yennefer noticed how he kept staring at her in silence. "Is something wrong?" She asked. "What's your name?" Soren asked abruptly. "Yennefer, Alpha." She answered. "Forgive me for not getting up. You really drained me last night. My body aches so bad." Soren felt more confused than ever. Why did he strongly feel the girl before him was an imposter? Where was her innocence of last night? Her naivety that appealed to him? Then he noticed the colour of her eyes. Brown. Last night, he could have sworn her eyes were emerald, identical to his. Or had it been the trick of the lanterns? Shaking his head, he ignored her totally and pulled on his clothes. By the time he was fully dressed, he turned towards the door and paused. The lycan warrior on the other side received the order through the mind link and he quickly unlocked the door. Before Soren could step out, Yennefer rose from the bed and hurried to him. "Alpha Soren, are you just going to leave? I am your wife now." She complained. Soren stared at her, wondering why he suddenly felt a burst of disgust towards her. "My escorts will bring you to Moonstone at dusk." He said stiffly, then slammed the door in her face. As he walked out of the cottage to the carriage where Alec and his entourage were waiting, something caught his attention. It was a young girl doing the laundry. She had her back to him and was humming softly. Her lustrous dark hair was woven into a single braid that trailed down her back. Her hands which were busy with the laundry was covered in faded scars. Soren frowned suddenly. Those scars, he thought. Why did it seem like he had seen them before? There was something so familiar about the girl, and he wanted to find out who she was. But Ophelia and Algernon stepped out, stopping him from advancing towards her. "Alpha Soren, I hope everything was to your satisfaction." Algernon said and bowed before Soren. "It is an honor to us, to be related to the Royal Alpha family." Soren ignored them and turned away from the girl. "My escorts will come for your daughter at dusk. Good day to you." He got into the carriage and soon, the entire entourage which came with him began their journey back to Moonstone. ... Later that evening, a carriage from Moonstone arrived at GreyOak Pack, followed by half a dozen lycan warriors. Yennefer was prepared and she hugged her parents goodbye before jumping into the carriage excitedly. From one of the rooms, Kaliyah watched her go. A part of her was glad, because now she could plan her escape without any hindrance. But somewhere inside her, she longed to be Soren's bride. She couldn't stop thinking about the night they shared together. One day, she would find the love of her life and start her own family. She just had to leave GreyOak Pack first. But as if fate was playing a joke on her, Kaliyah discovered a week later that she was pregnant. She was carrying Soren's child.
