Chapter 15

1504 Words

DOMINIC'S POV The second Lucien walked out of my office, the entire room felt wrong. Like tension had soaked itself into the walls. Into the air. Into my skin. The doors closed quietly behind him, but the silence he left behind was louder than anything he’d actually said. I stood near my desk staring at the city through the glass windows while rain poured endlessly over London. Cold. Gray. Violent. Behind me, Ethan cleared his throat carefully. “Well,” he muttered, “that could’ve gone better.” I barely heard him. Because all I could think about was Elara. She stood near the far side of the office with her arms folded tightly across herself, staring out at the storm like she was trying very hard not to fall apart in front of me. God. Five years later and she still did that.
