AKRA.
I knocked Garmur out cold and as soon as his body hit the ground, there was an uproar and suddenly the surrounding men started to attack me.
I didn't have time to shift and let Ahmeira take over. The only thing she could do now was give support.
There were perks of being part dragon. Whilst in my human form I could somewhat take what I need from Ahmeira's part of me. I was faster and stronger than most other shifters, mainly because the dragon is the most powerful. Dragons are immortal, but unfortunately I am not, I will live no more than 5,000 years. I don't have to worry about dying for a very long time because right now though I'm only 18. But i'm not naive, I know I can be killed or that I could die before I reach 5,000 years old.
When I draw from Ahmeira, I've been told by my overseer that a slight sheen of Ahmeira scales are visible on my skin, which gives it a reddish glow, because Ahmeira scales are blood red in colour, some say scarlet, but they have a gold highlight to them. It's like my body is mixed with the two, but shows we are one, like we are fused together. Ahmeira will always protect then human in me and in human form, I will always protect my dragon. We are nothing without the other and we can't live without the other part of ourselves. My eye colour changes, they become black with a gold tinge through them which take over, from my normal green. It's uncommon for two parts, to be seen at once or work together in unison physically, but thats what we are, two in one.
My overseer came to me when I was young and became my carer. He taught me what I know, it's just what I did with his teachings was up to me. Overseers usually come to you when you're 13 years old, as thats when you first shift. Your first shift means you're ready to begin to learn what it means to be a dragon and each person is taught differently as there are different ranks, or if you like, statuses, they first shift is the most painful, but over time you become acustomed to it and it just then becomes uncomfortable and bearable. Some of the dragon shifters excel in magic, some in agility and strength. Not trying to sound cocky here, but I have the best of it all.
All I know is I'm the last of one of the oldest and powerful families that were alpha's over Diamondstone, until my family were killed. No one knows exactly why they were killed, but they only recovered the bodies of my mother and two of my brothers and a female cousin, the rest of them were never found. But there are six families, as I mentioned, mine were the oldest and powerful.
I don't remember much, I only remember waking up in a dark room, candles for light, a fireplace in the corner with a fire roaring inside of it. Being near fire not only brings comfort when a dragon needs to heal and rejuvenate. My overseer came into my room, with some dragon healers and asked me what I remembered which was nothing at all, he pondered over this and when the healers had let the chamber, he told me I was there when my family were killed, but its now a mystery that I have no memory of the event or how I survived. I have no recollection of my family, who they were, what they looked like, nothing. It is like they never even existed.
Even though there are now only five of the oldest families left, they aren't completely sure that I am alive, just the gossip and rumours which they don't really bother about. There are one alpha from each family, which makes up the council. It's not often for the council to come together, unless its to discuss matters such as threats, war and important decisions that affect that five families, their welfare and that of their tribes. They are also required to ally each other when one of them are threatened or enduring hard times. Each of the families are unique in their own way and their own power, but theirs was nothing compared to the power my family had. I do know that the five conspire against each other despite a treaty amongst them. If this is broken, the families are are for themselves.
As far as I am aware, Gamur is working for the Firearmours. The now second family out of the five. I don't know why they sent Gamur after me, maybe to get the proof that I am alive and to confirm the rumours, but I know Gamur is wanting more than just whatever they have offered him for his services, because I am valuable.
He was tracking me to the forest of ashes, as a known powerful witch is known to live there and I hoped that she had answers to some of the questions that I had been seeking.
I felt Ahmeiar boosting and enhancing my strength, magic and agilities. Which I used to quickly counter the attacks that were coming our way. With enough room, I was now able to use more magic. quickly putting my swords back into their straps, I threw my hands out in front of me as flames erupted from them, like a stream of fire. The men who were unlucky enough to meet the flames, now were screaming from pain and agony. Some of the others decided to abandon their attack and fled in terror. Some stood their undecided on what they should do, hesitant, some met the flame in a moment of bravery, some just ended up running just like Ost of the others.
I was so focused on defeating the oncoming men, that I didn't expect a sharp pain from behind. then an arm wrapped around my neck and held me tightly. In union both Ameira and I screamed in agony.
Gamur had awoken and he snuck up from behind and stabbed me with a gold dagger. Which he had made customed especially for me. Contray to the belief, gold to a dragon, is like silver to a werewolf.
I clutched at his arm as he drove the dagger deep into my side. Pulled it out and done it again. That's when I felt the dragons poison starting to run its course in my body, without an antidote I will be deal in a matter of hours and the more he kept stabbing it into my body, the less time I would have.
I let go of his arm and took my own dagger from my hip strap and quickly drove the dagger up and into Gamurs head. He instantly let go of me and there was screaming of his own, this time also mixed with profanities and threats. I could feel my force draining and knew there was only one thing I could do to get away from the immediate danger and I only had now a matter of time.
I closed my eyes and a spinning sensation happened.
'AKRA!!!'
I opened my eyes, I done it. There was my overseer, whom was now rushing over to me in alarm and so was my best friend Gongurdu, who is a practicing healer. I fell to my knees in front of them and both of them caught me before I passed out.
