Sleep clung to me like fog. Somewhere in the distance, there was a knock..... faint, hesitant at first, then sharper. I tried to ignore it, dragging the duvet higher, burying my face in the pillow. The knocking didn’t stop. It grew steadier, more deliberate, and threaded itself into my half-dreams until it finally dragged me out of them. I groaned, rolling over, eyes barely open. The bed shifted beside me, and I heard Kay’s quiet sigh, then his voice, low and rough with sleep. “I got it.” The mattress dipped as he got up, footsteps padding softly across the floor.
