CHAPTER EIGHTY-THREE...

2280 Words

The moment I stepped out of the club, the world blurred behind a veil of tears. Everything felt heavy..... my breath, my heartbeat, even the air. The streets buzzed with life, people laughing, cars honking, the world spinning like it didn’t care that mine was crumbling. I flagged down the first cab I saw and slid into the back seat, gripping my bag to my chest. My reflection in the glass window looked like a ghost.... eyes swollen, lips trembling. I pressed my forehead against the cold window and whispered, “Please, God… not today.” When I reached home, I ran straight to the room, slamming the door behind me. My chest ached from holding everything in, but the moment the silence hit, I broke. Tears spilled freely now..... hot, angry tears that tasted like exhaustion and shame. Don Smith
