The sound wouldn’t stop. My phone buzzed once… paused… then started again. A steady, relentless vibration that felt almost personal, like it was offended, I hadn’t answered the first ten times. I groaned, rolling over and yanking the blanket over my head. The room was dim, but the early morning light was already creeping through the thin curtains, slicing across the wall in soft, dusty streaks. My body felt like lead.....drained, sore, like every ounce of energy had been wrung out of me during the night. The buzzing stopped. I sighed, half relieved, half waiting for it to start again. Maybe whoever it was had finally taken the hint. But before I could drift back into that half-sleep where thoughts blur and time doesn’t matter, another vibration started up this time from across the bed.
