Chapter 7: The Truth Unveiled

501 Words
Rina sat outside the emergency room, her hands clasped tightly together. Her mind raced, trying to process what she had just witnessed. Ivory… no, Adam, the man she had seen on the news many times for being missing had been living with her all this time. As a cat. But how? The memory of him lying in her arms, his body changing, his breathing weak, it was impossible. And yet, it had happened right before her eyes. The doors to the ER opened, and a nurse stepped out. "Are you here for Mr. Smith?" Rina looked up, still dazed. "Y-Yes. Is he okay?" "He's stable, but he needs rest." The nurse gave her a small smile. "You can see him for a moment." Heart pounding, Rina stepped into the room. Adam lay on the hospital bed, his face pale, his breathing steady. But he wasn’t a cat anymore. He was human. A man. She took slow steps toward him, her emotions tangled between shock, confusion, and… something else. "Adam…" she whispered. At the sound of her voice, his fingers twitched, and slowly, his eyes fluttered open. For a moment, they just stared at each other. Then Adam swallowed hard, his voice rough as he spoke. "Rina…" Rina panic, "Are you thirsty? Do you want some water?" she asked. He nodded in response. She went to the table beside the hospital bed to get some glass of water and gave it to him. He immediately took it. A few moments of silence passed, Rina finally speak. She bit her lip. "I-I don’t understand… You were Ivory. How is this possible?" A weak smile ghosted his lips. "It’s a long story." "Then tell me." Her voice trembled. "Please." Adam exhaled slowly, his gaze softening. "I never meant for you to find out this way. I never meant to keep anything from you. But I was cursed, Rina. Trapped in the body of a cat." Rina’s breath hitched. "A curse?" He nodded. "And for months, I lived with you. I saw your kindness, your warmth… you treated me like family. You saved me in more ways than one." Rina’s throat tightened. She remembered all those nights she had confided in Ivory, all the times she had held him close. And now, knowing he had been him all along. Her emotions overwhelmed her. "Why didn’t you tell me?" Adam let out a weak chuckle. "How could I? I was a cat, Rina. I couldn’t talk. And even if I could, would you have believed me?" She opened her mouth, then closed it. Would she have? Adam’s expression softened. "I never wanted to deceive you. I was just… stuck. But if there’s one thing I know now, it’s that meeting you changed me." Rina swallowed hard. Her heart was a mess of emotions. She wasn’t sure what to feel, what to believe. But one thing was clear, this changed everything. And for the first time since this all started, she didn’t know what to do next.
