"Don't just focus on me. What happened with that daughter of the Hao family that scared you so much you had to flee all the way here?" Han Yuming teased Jin Haichen.
"I don't even know if she’s beautiful or ugly, fat or thin. My dad just ordered me to get engaged to her, claiming it’s 'for my own good.' In reality, it’s just for the sake of his company!" Haichen had zero interest in the family business and held nothing but contempt for the future his father had mapped out for him.
"If you were more like me, Uncle Jin wouldn't feel the need to micro-manage you. But since you refuse to step up, he has no choice but to find you a highly capable wife to handle things!" Han Yuming knew his friend’s heart wasn't in business, but he didn't want him to live such an irresponsible life. He could only try to nudge him with subtle hints.
"How are you sounding exactly like my father? I came here for some peace and quiet, but it turns out you’re just a recording of him! I'm done with you. I'm leaving!" Haichen shot Yuming a glare and stormed out, slamming the door behind him.
Haichen really hasn't grown up, Yuming thought. He hadn't faced any real storms and had no idea how cruel the business world could be. He didn't realize how exhausted his father was, holding up the sky for him. Haichen only cared about "finding himself," unaware that his father was literally putting his life on the line to protect that future. Having a father like that... Yuming truly envied the brat.
"Yuming, Haichen has always been close to you. He might actually listen to what you have to say. Your Uncle Jin’s heart condition is getting worse, but he has no time to rest, let alone have surgery, because he’s trying to secure the estate for Haichen. You must help us convince him!"
Recalling the nearly pleading words of Haichen's mother, Yuming couldn't remain indifferent. He valued his friend and didn't want to deceive him, but he wanted even less to see Haichen filled with regret for his ignorance later on. After all, Yuming knew the pain of losing a parent all too well.
"Auntie, Haichen was just here. Tell Uncle Jin to rest. I promise you, I will find a way to make Haichen learn to take responsibility." Han Yuming dialed the number to let Haichen's mother in England know where her son was.
"I’ll look after him, so don't worry too much. You should take care of your own health too, Auntie; Uncle Jin needs you. I'll hang up now." When Yuming lived in England, the Jin couple had treated him like their own son. He was grateful, yet he also found it hard to accept. He felt as though their kindness was a form of charity, which made him feel weak—so he instinctively resisted their care.
The Truth About the Purple Room
"Oh... stop it! Your friend is still downstairs. This is so embarrassing!" A woman’s coquettish voice drifted from the second floor of the villa.
"We’ve been like this every day for the past two days and he hasn't said a word. Don't worry about him; just pretend he’s invisible." Jin Haichen caressed the woman before him, his eyes burning with the flames of desire.
Haichen was staying at Yuming’s house, specifically in the very room Yi Lanyou had entered previously.
In truth, Haichen had returned to Cloud City with Yuming a year ago, but under family pressure, he had been sent back home after only a few weeks. The women's clothes in that wardrobe were all items he had bought for his various lovers. When he left back then, he had only taken his own clothes, leaving the rest behind—which had caused Lanyou's massive misunderstanding.
Downstairs in the study, Han Yuming was processing documents. Occasionally, the sounds of passionate moans and heavy breathing from upstairs would reach him. He was used to it; he simply sighed helplessly and buried his head back in his work.
An hour later, Jin Haichen stood at the study door dressed in a cream-colored casual suit. "Ming, let’s go out for dinner!"
"So, you've finally finished your 'business,' brat? I have no desire to be a third wheel. You two go ahead." If Yuming didn't consider him a brother, he would have kicked him out days ago.
"What's this? Are you jealous? I sent my date away today just for you! Don't be mad, okay?" Haichen began using that high-pitched, playful voice to assault Yuming’s eardrums again.
"Fine! I'll go! Can you act like a normal man now?" Han Yuming grabbed his jacket from the back of the chair and headed out. Haichen followed close behind, a wicked grin on his face as his little scheme succeeded.
