"Whoa! That was amazing! One more song!" The audience below was completely captivated by their performance.
"Thank you, thank you!" With a slight bow of gratitude, Lanyou stepped off the stage, preparing to return to the private booth.
"Hey, little lady, you’ve got a voice on you, and you play that piano beautifully. Come on, have a drink with me!" A sleazy man, clearly reeking of alcohol, lunged forward and grabbed Lanyou by the arm.
"Thank you, but I don't drink!" Lanyou tried to pry his filthy hand off, but his grip was brutal, already leaving a faint reddish bruise on her skin.
"I’m giving you 'face' by offering you a drink, don't you dare—argh!" Before he could finish, Di Yun’er, who had already reached her breaking point, delivered a sharp kick to his wrist. The man cried out in pain and released Lanyou.
"You little b***h! Don't push your luck. Hey! Someone help me grab them, I'm going to teach them a lesson!" Rubbing his wrist, the man shouted to the thugs sitting at the surrounding tables.
"Big brother, big brother, let’s talk this out!" Xue Tao rushed over and shielded the girls behind him, while Di Jun charged forward as well.
"They aren't regular singers here, they just don't know the rules. If they offended you, today’s tab is on the house, and I’ll drink three glasses as a penalty to apologize!" As a bar owner, Xue Tao had seen plenty of scenes like this. Normally, he might have started a fight already, but he knew he couldn't cover everyone in a full-blown brawl. If the woman he loved got hurt, he would never forgive himself.
"What do you think I am? You think I’m that easy to pay off?" The man stood up from his chair, agitated.
"Then what do you want, you creep?" Seeing Xue Tao swallowing his pride for her sake made Yun’er’s heart ache with rage, and she snapped back instantly.
"Calling me a creep? Then I'll show you what a real creep looks like! Get them! Break the men, take the women!" He stepped back from the circle, waiting to watch the show.
"Yun’er, take Xiao You and run when you see a chance! We can’t afford to be distracted!" Di Jun knew Xue Tao’s bouncers were nearby and would join the fray soon. In the chaos, the girls were his biggest concern.
"Got it, Brother! You guys be careful too!" Yun’er squeezed Lanyou’s trembling hand, giving her an encouraging look. Lanyou could only take deep breaths, trying to settle her panicked heart.
Xue Tao grabbed a nearby chair and hurled it at the hulking men closing in, clearing a path for Yun’er and Lanyou. He pushed them out and immediately threw himself into the fight, as bouncers from all corners of the bar began to swarm in.
The Moment of Despair
"Ah—!" Lanyou had barely caught her breath when she was snatched into the arms of the sleazy man waiting outside the circle.
"Xiao You!" Seeing that her brother and Xue Tao were trapped in the melee, Yun’er acted on instinct. She grabbed a wine bottle from a table, smashed it over the man’s head in a sneak attack, then leaped back a safe distance, staring in horror at the blood-covered man.
"Ah—you b***h!"
The man instinctively clutched his head. Lanyou took the chance to bolt, but the man wasn't about to let his "prize" fly away. He reached out and snagged the beaded chain around Lanyou’s neck. The chain snapped—but the problem was that it was the halter-strap of her inner garment. With the strap broken, Lanyou didn't dare move another inch. She collapsed where she stood, hugging her knees and sobbing helplessly.
The sleazy man, seeing Lanyou’s disheveled state, had a greedy fire in his eyes. He lunged at her, and Yun’er was too far away to stop him.
Lanyou buried her head in her arms, certain she was doomed. But that moment never came. Instead, she felt a sudden warmth as a jacket was draped over her shoulders.
"It seems my fiancée is quite the charmer, driving so many people mad. I suppose next time you go out alone, I’ll have to assign you a few bodyguards." Han Yuming ran a finger along his chin, his eyes searching as he looked down at the curled-up Lanyou.
Lanyou looked up, dazed, at the "savior" who had suddenly appeared. His hair was slightly messy and his black shirt was wrinkled, but it did nothing to diminish his handsome features; if anything, it added a certain provocative allure to his aura.
"What is it, baby? Am I that handsome?" Han Yuming leaned his handsome face closer to the starstruck Lanyou.
"Ow—!" Whether out of shock or because her legs had gone numb from crouching, Lanyou tried to stand up, only to lose her balance and fall right back onto the floor.
