One of the guys on Jack’s original list called Mon and made an appointment, but he wasn’t home when she showed and he didn’t call back to reschedule. Two of the others never called at all. Jack added some new names, other guys he figured didn’t exactly play the game of life by the rules.
So here’s how it went. Jack, going in first and making the judgment calls: take that there this time, leave that and that for later. Mon was the dreamer. She was the one who’d squat down in front of a fish tank and say stuff like, This guy must be lonely. Do we really need to rip him off? To keep himself amused, Jack would click the stopwatch button on Fats’ Phasar 2000 and time how long it took them to get in and out. T
