Chapter 8

1671 Words
Katryna tosses and turns for hours, not getting almost any sleep. Her mind keeps racing with excitement and nerves. She was at a school to learn magic, was that not amazing? She had so much to look forward to, some of which included two boys she met today. Hector and Corvus were keeping her awake as well, still wondering why they were fighting over her. Was she that charming? She had hardly brought any attention from boys back home. The hours pass and eventually Katryna does find herself asleep, but waking up was quite a chore. Especially when it was met with a yanking on her arm before hitting the cold, stone floor. “That bloody alarm has been ringing for over five minutes!” Katryna groans, arm flopping around wildly for her phone. Although she had noted the lack of service, the basic functions like the clock still worked. “Sorry, I couldn’t sleep,” she mumbles, rubbing her eyes before seeing a fiery redhead staring down at her. She seemed really annoyed, huffing before turning away to the bathroom, slamming the door behind her. Katryna blinks, recognition slowly crossing her face. Wasn’t that the girl who was with Corvus before? The one he walked into the dining hall with, the girl who was making the water circles? A sudden wave of jealousy finishes waking her up. She stays on the floor for a few seconds longer before standing up and checking the time. It’s about an hour before breakfast. Digging through her bags, she finds her uniform and makeup. Seeing as the bathroom was currently occupied by someone she did not want to converse with, Katryna uses her phone camera to start doing her makeup. About twenty minutes pass before the girl finally exits the bathroom. Katryna stands up, grabbing her clothes to be surprised by a smiling face looking at her. “I’m sorry for the rude way I woke you up, I can get a bit grumpy sometimes.” A hand extends out to her, “I’m Ivy, and it looks like your roommate. It’s nice to meet you.” Katryna stares back at the redhead in surprise, not having expected such a pleasant greeting after the scowl from the morning. “Katryna,” she takes the other’s hand, shaking it quickly. “I’ll try to put my alarm a little quieter for tomorrow, sorry about that.” She gives a hesitant smile back. Ivy laughs a little, “No worries! I can teach you how to cast a spell on your phone so that nobody else can hear it, if you’d like? I saw the books on your bed when I arrived, you must be from a non magic family. I don’t mind helping you around!” Katryna tenses a bit at Ivy’s comment, remembering how Hector told her to keep a bit quiet about her lack of experience. Ivy lifts a hand to wave off her concerns, picking them up from her facial expressions, “Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me.” A moment later, a little piece of folded parchment is slid underneath the door. Ivy moves to pick it up, but holds it out to Katryna, “It’s for you.” Katryna takes the paper, noting that it does have her name written on it in neat print. She opens it to see a short, but sweet little note, bringing a slight blush as well as a grin to her face. Dearest Katryna, Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend breakfast with you. Please be careful on your way to classes today, I will try to meet with you during lunch. Hector Ivy peeks over her shoulder with curiosity, not meaning to eavesdrop but also not being able to help herself. “Oooh Kat, do you have an admirer already?” This causes Katryna to press the letter to her chest, hiding its contents. “Hasn’t anyone taught you about privacy?” She then proceeds to start towards the bathroom. “And look who’s talking. I saw you with a cute boy a few times yesterday.” She thinks of Corvus again, that hint of jealousy rising once more. She scolds herself inside, however. Why is she jealous? She really likes Hector, being with him felt special in a way that was hard to describe. Ivy seems confused for a moment before surprise crosses her eyes, “Do you mean Corvus? Oh, we are so not together. We’ve known eachother since childhood.” Ivy rolls her eyes, crossing her arms in a slightly defensive way. Katryna grins back at her, standing in the bathroom doorway, “Right, because I totally didn’t catch you flirting in the courtyard,” her lips portray amusement, but her heart pounds with anger. Ivy shakes her head, “No way. He’s a total player anyway, definitely not my type. Now his friend Phoenix?” she nods her head, seeming to approve. “I would consider him if he would be less nosy. This causes Katryna to feel a bit better, shoulders relaxing. “If you say so,” she says in a more teasing manner before closing the bathroom door, getting changed and styling her hair for the day. It was her first day officially learning magic, afterall. There was no way she was going to miss it. Just as Katryna was finishing up, she hears soft chatter in her room. She glances towards the door, putting the last touch on her hair before opening it. “You can’t have my roommate,” her head peaks out the door to see Ivy scowling at a head of curly black hair. A deep chuckle leaves the man, Katryna suddenly not being able to hear anything other than his voice, “I’m not going to..” his objection trails off as he turns, the beautiful gray eyes of Corvus now locking on to hers. They stare silently at each other for what feels like a lifetime, but is only a few seconds as Ivy quickly disrupts their gaze, stepping between them. “Katryna is off limits, Corvus, got it?” Katryna can’t stop herself from leaning around Ivy to try and keep eye contact with Corvus, but finds herself disappointed as she now seems to be looking at Ivy instead. “Alright, V. I got it.” The redhead’s hand smacks him in the arm, causing a scowl to cross his face. “I mean it!” She points a threatening finger at him, and he just nods, rubbing his arm. “I said I got it! You don’t have to hit me, poison,” Ivy lifts her hand to smack him again, but he quickly takes a few steps out the door. “You’re going to be late to breakfast if you don’t hurry up!” He gives them a wolfish grin before running down the stairs. Katryna still finds herself dazed after he’s gone. “He’s right, we should get going if we want anything good to eat.” Katryna shakes her head a bit before quickly nodding, shifting to grab her books and schedule from the bed before following Ivy downstairs. It seemed Corvus hadn’t gone far, waiting for them at the bottom. Katryna doesn’t notice how he doesn’t look at her, instead only talking to Ivy. It’s like that the whole way to the dining hall, Katryna slowly getting lost in thought about what was going on with her and the boys in this school? Did all wolf shifter boys have the most distracting eyes? She was trying to remember if she had made eye contact with any other guy at the school so far. She’s so lost in thought that she runs into Corvus’s back at the entrance to the dining hall. “Give me a minute, V. I’m going to wait for Phoenix.” Corvus slips a hand behind his back to motion for Katryna to wait. SHe looks at it confused for a moment, but doesn’t move. Ivy rolls her eyes, “Alright. Are you coming, Kat?” Katryna hesitates, glancing at Corvus for a second before shaking her head, “I just remembered I forgot a book back in our room. I’m going to run and grab it, then I’ll join you.” Ivy sighs, looking a bit annoyed now, but she nods and heads into the dining hall. Not a moment later, Katryna feels a hand grab her wrist, fire shooting up her arm at the touch. Her eyes widen, looking up at Corvus as he pulls her, running towards an empty hallway. He pushes her gently against the wall, one arm against the wall above her head and the other resting on her waist, pulling her closer. Katryna just looks up at him in shock. “What are-” the little breath she had is quickly replaced by the demanding way Corvus presses his lips to hers. His lips were soft and hot, molding to fit hers perfectly. All other thoughts wiped from her mind, Katryna kisses back, hands suddenly grabbing the front of his uniform, pressing closer to him. His hand from above her head finds its way to join the other at his waist, and then next thing she knows he is lifting her into the air, her legs wrapping around his waist by some unknown instinct. A low growl escapes his throat, making Katryna’s body feel hot all over. She finds a little whimper escaping her throat before his lips break from hers, moving down to her neck. Her hands find their way to his hair, back arching as he starts pressing hot, open mouthed kisses to her skin. She gives a breathy little gasp as she feels a pair of sharp teeth run across her neck. “What the f**k, Corvus?” A loud yell rings through the hallway, Katryna’s lustful daze lifting just enough to look at who’s talking. And standing behind Corvus, eyes almost black and seeming completely enraged, was Hector.
