Angel’s scream echoed in my ears. She was in danger. She needed me. Ignoring the pain in my chest, I struggled to my feet and stumbled in the direction her scream was coming from. The men at my back were forgotten. All I could think about was getting to her. But every step felt like agony. Every breath I took was getting harder. Dark spots lingered at the edges of my vision.
