Proposal Accepted

“Who... Who the hell are you getting engaged to? " Elsie stammered as her eyes were firmly glued to the card. “Nora” Jordan firmly answered coldly, now shifting his gaze from her. Nora was the daughter of Alec Marty; Alec Marty was among the top 10 billionaire CEOs in town. No one dares go against Nora; her father would definitely go to extreme lengths if anyone dared to step on his daughter's toes. And this was the woman he was actually getting engaged to. It was now clear to her that getting attached to the Alec family would bring a great impact on his company, and he wasn't ready to let that opportunity slip from his paw. “Elsie, I'd suggest you don't attend if you can't withstand it, and don't forget, from today onwards pretend like you never knew me”. Standing up from his seat, he directed his gaze of disgust at her, turning to leave. The tears she was trying so hard to restrain finally slid down her eyes. Without hesitating, she wiped her tears quickly with the back of her hand, exhaling sharply. All she could do was stare at his retreating figure as hot tears kept rolling down her cheeks. In her whole life she had never felt so hopeless. Glancing down at her watch, she grabbed her bag, striding out from the restaurant. The moment she stepped out, the cold breeze of the night washed against her skin as she watched around feeling the tendency to just stop a taxi, but something told her to take a walk. Perhaps a walk would help a little in calming her nerves. Taking a few steps away from the restaurant, she suddenly heard the sound of screeching tires pulling up right in front of her. Looking around, fear gripped her immediately; holding her bag tightly in her hands, she watched the car in silence as if preparing her mind for whatever was about to unveil. Suddenly, the doors of the car creaked open softly, and two hefty men emerged outside. One stepped forward, quickly opening the door of the backseat. Elsie's eyes shot wide open; squinting her eyes, she tried to steal a quick glance at the figure now slowly stepping out of the car. He stood abruptly, and as soon as his gaze met with Elsie's, she gasped loudly with her lips slightly parted. The man standing before her wasn't merely good-looking; his looks were far more surpassing than any celebrity she'd ever laid her eyes on, his brown hair naturally falling over his deep, cold set of hazel eyes, which made him look extraordinarily dashing. “Who are you and what do you want from me?” Elsie forced herself to say, staring at the two hefty men now walking towards her. Taking a few steps back, she turned around swiftly to run away, but suddenly felt two strong arms pulling her back quickly. “We don't intend to cause any harm, ma'am; if only our boss could have a word with you.” One of the men reassured him warmly. “Why would I think a handsome man like this would want to hurt me?” she thought, taking some steps forward to the man. “Be My Wife” He uttered plainly, causing Elsie to take a step backward for a moment. Did he just say he wanted her to be his wife? She was still heartbroken about Jordan calling off their engagement, and here again a dazzling, handsome man from nowhere was asking her to be his wife. “I can help you get back at Jordan; just accept my proposal, and it's done,” he said, shooting a cold glance at her. “Proposal…. Jordan”. But first, how did he know about Jordan? She had never seen or heard of him, so how did he figure out about her relationship with Jordan? “There's no time; the wedding is tomorrow. Are you in for it?” Elsie stared at him in shock; she was still thinking about what to say in return when one of his men stepped forward with a file in his hands. Staring at the expression settling on her face, he explained, “Let me make this clear to you: Jordan has crossed the line by stepping on my boundaries, but what is more important right now is that I'm on the verge of losing something precious, and I need a woman by my side to secure it. Don't get so shocked; it's only a contracted marriage lasting for a year, and after that we are done.” Elsie's eyes were fixed on the file, and she forced herself to reply. “Is that all? What am I getting in return?” In her whole life, she had never been this brave, and this amused her. A cunning smirk appeared on his lips, causing Elsie to shrink in fear. “Of course, sign this contract and watch yourself turn into the wife of Calvin Norris, the top number one billionaire CEO in L.A.” “Calvin… Norris” Elsie murmured, staring back at his face in disbelief. Suddenly she recalled seeing this man's face a few times on T.V. She couldn't believe he was standing right next to her, asking her to be his wife. “Are you trying to say the moment I sign this contract we're getting married right away tomorrow?” Elsie asked, waiting patiently for his reply. “What could be so urgent that he needed her to be his wife right away?” Elsie thought, feeling confused. “Elsie,” he coldly called out, staring down at his watch. “Your time starts now. I need an honest reply from you this time. Are you going to be my wife?” “What? How did he also get to know her name?” Elsie clenched her fist so tight as she was trying hard to figure out what to say in reply. An hour ago, she got dumped coldly by Jordan, and now she has been given the opportunity to get back at him for dumping her and treating her harshly all these years. What would she gain if she objected to this man's proposal? Probably move on with living her average life and nothing else, but if she were to accept his proposal, she would surely rise to the top as Calvin Norris's first lady. At this point she couldn't help but feel a little greedy. After much thinking, Elsie raised her gaze once again to meet his hazel eyes and finally answered. “Proposal Accepted”.
