Chapter 3: Shadow, Blood and dangerous Bond
Not the innocent, never them, but the wicked. The cruel. The enemies.
That was why he was named Blood.
I rushed forward at full speed, grabbing Razer by the neck and slamming him into the stone wall. My claws extended, ready to tear his throat out.
I was about to kill him.
But luckily for him, my mate stopped me.
She placed her hand on my arm, her touch grounding me instantly.
He’s so damn lucky.
Speaking of my mate—she’s infuriating.
I don’t know why the Moon Goddess paired her with me. Not that I don’t find her attractive. She’s beautiful. Sexy. Her scent drives my wolf insane.
But she’s also arrogant, stubborn, and unbelievably annoying.
She gets on my nerves more than anyone I’ve ever met.
I arrived at the meeting room moments later, forcing my anger down. The guards opened the massive doors, and the six elders immediately stood to greet me.
“Your Majesty—”
I waved my hand. “Sit.”
They obeyed instantly.
I walked to my throne and sat down, my posture rigid. “Proceed.”
Elder Marshall, the first elder of the council, cleared his throat. “Your Majesty, congratulations on finding your mate.”
“Thank you,” I replied coldly. “We will begin preparations for the coronation. Make sure everything is ready.”
“Yes, Your Majesty,” he said, then hesitated. “But… if I may ask—”
I narrowed my eyes.
“I heard Her Highness does not have a wolf. How is she supposed to rule this kingdom without one? That would make her weak. An omega.”
My growl shook the walls.
“Shut the f**k up,” I snarled. “Unless you want me to rip your throat out.”
“Your Majesty,” Elder Raphael said carefully, standing. “He is only stating facts. We cannot have a weak omega as queen. It would weaken the kingdom.”
His words echoed in my head.
They were right.
She had no wolf. She couldn’t protect herself. She couldn’t even carry a strong heir.
I clenched my fists. I couldn’t make her my queen.
But I had no choice.
The seer had commanded me to find my mate and keep her close. I didn’t know why—but I had to obey.
“Your Majesty,” Elder Michael added, “let us find you another wife. One who can bear your child and give you an heir.”
The others murmured in agreement.
I stood abruptly, fury blazing in my eyes.
“Never,” I growled. “She is my queen. And she is not weak. Get used to it. This meeting is over.”
I stormed out.
On my way, I saw Razer standing in the hallway.
“Where were you?” I demanded.
“Your Majesty,” he bowed. “I was interrogating the prisoners in the dungeon.”
“And?”
“They refused to talk.”
“Oh really?” I said darkly. “Then let’s make them talk.”
---
The dungeon stank of blood and fear.
Six rogues were chained to the walls with silver chains laced with wolfsbane. They whimpered when they saw me enter.
“Where’s your leader?” I asked.
One of them pointed shakily to a middle-aged man.
“What’s your name?” I asked him.
“B-Blake Woods, Your Majesty,” he replied, terror thick in his voice.
I smiled.
“Who sent you here?”
“I don’t know, Your Majesty.”
I knew he was lying.
I motioned for Razer to hand me the whip. The sound of leather snapping made them shiver.
“Stop!” Blake screamed. “I’ll tell you! Please spare my life!”
“Speak.”
“It was Eric Dickson.”
I froze.
Eric Dickson my family’s enemy. The man who hated my bloodline for what my parents had done to him. My parents were dead, but his thirst for revenge remained.
“I will make him regret crossing me,” I growled.
“Please, Your Majesty,” the rogues begged.
“I’m not done with you,” I said coldly. “Where is Eric, and what is he planning?”
“We don’t know! He only told us to come here and report everything back to him.”
I turned away. “Razer. Deal with them.”
I left.
Later that night, I stood outside my bedroom, groaning.
My mate was inside.
Sharing my bed.
“She’s so annoying,” I muttered. “Maybe I should sleep in the guest room…”
“Your Highness,” Razer said suddenly. “Were you talking to yourself?”
“No!” I snapped and quickly walked away.
When I finally opened the bedroom door, I froze.
There she was.
Onyx Nightshade’s POV
My mate was sleeping in my bed.
Half-naked.
She wore nothing but one of my shirts, the fabric clinging to her body in a way that made my wolf stir restlessly. I stood there longer than I intended to, my eyes tracing the slow rise and fall of her chest. She looked… peaceful. Too peaceful for someone who constantly irritated me when she was awake.
She looked nothing like the arrogant, stubborn woman who argued with me at every chance she got.
I clenched my jaw and climbed onto the bed, careful not to wake her. My body was tense, my thoughts loud. The mate bond hummed softly beneath my skin, reminding me of something I didn’t want to accept.
“She’s annoying,” I muttered under my breath.
But she smelled like home.
I turned to the other side, switched off the lamp, and forced myself to sleep.
Amirah’s POV
I woke up to brightness.
Not sunlight—something stronger, almost glowing. I blinked several times and sat up, scanning the room. No one was there.
Wait… didn’t he come back last night?
I shrugged. Wherever he was, I didn’t care.
Stretching, I smiled to myself and climbed out of bed. I headed straight to the bathroom and took a long shower, letting the warm water calm my racing thoughts.
Because I needed a plan.
I couldn’t stay here.
I couldn’t stay married to someone who didn’t love me—someone who found me annoying before even trying to know me.
He judges me already, I thought angrily. Who does that?
Well, fine.
I would leave.
Tomorrow night.
I would escape, go back to my father, and tell him I didn’t want this marriage. No one could force me to stay here not even a king.
After dressing, I stepped out of the room and carefully studied my surroundings. The hallway was lined with guards, standing stiff and silent.
I walked forward confidently and stopped in front of one of them.
“Hi,” I said politely. “Do you mind showing me the way to the dining hall? I’m hungry.”
For a moment, I thought they were statues.
Then the guard blinked, bowed his head slightly, and said, “Yes, Your Majesty.”
He turned and walked ahead, and I quickly followed.
When we arrived at the dining hall, my jaw nearly dropped.
Food.
So. Much. Food.
Tables filled with roasted turkey, fruits, bread, wine, pastries everything. Yet no one was there.
“Wow,” I whispered, my eyes glowing. “All this for me?”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
“Ahhh!” I screamed, spinning around. “Oh f**k you scared me! How did you get here?”
The woman bowed. “I’m sorry, Your Majesty. I went to your room and didn’t find you, so I came here. His Majesty ordered me to be your personal maid.”
My heart sank.
“Personal maid?” I repeated. “No, no, no. I don’t need a personal maid. I can do things myself.”
If I had a personal maid following me everywhere, my escape plan would be impossible.
“I don’t want you as my personal maid,” I said firmly. “Go tell your king I said so.”
She shook her head. “I can’t, Your Highness. It’s His Majesty’s order.”
“Argh!” I groaned. “Why is everyone so stubborn here?”
I sighed deeply. Fine. I would have to stay longer and plan carefully.
“What’s your name?” I asked.
“Uma, Your Majesty.”
“Aww, that’s a nice name,” I smiled. “How old are you?”
“Eighteen, Your Majesty.”
“Oh, you’re of age then,” I said lightly. “Have you found your mate?”
“No, Your Majesty.”
“Same here,” I laughed. “I haven’t found mine either.”
She stared at me like I had just said something ridiculous.
“But Your Majesty,” she said slowly, “His Highness is your mate.”
I burst out laughing. “No, he’s not. He just married me which I still don’t understand. He doesn’t love me. A mate bond needs love.”
She looked unsure but nodded. “Alright, Your Majesty.”
“Now,” I said happily, sitting down, “let’s eat.”
My eyes locked onto the turkey. I cut a large piece and took a bite.
“Mmm,” I moaned. “This is so good.”
I kept eating while Uma stood there watching me.
“Uma,” I said, mouth full, “come join me. Let’s eat together.”
She hesitated but finally sat down.
After eating, I asked her to give me a tour of the palace.
The place was massive endless corridors, tall ceilings, rooms bigger than my entire house back home. By the time we were done, I was exhausted.
Everything felt boring.
So I went back to the room and slept.
I woke up later to darkness.
My stomach growled loudly.
I realized I hadn’t eaten since earlier, so I called Uma to bring me food. After eating, I went back to sleep again.
Morning came quickly.
I stretched and looked around.
Didn't he sleep here last night?
I shrugged. As long as he didn’t disturb my peace, I didn’t care.
I got out of bed and headed for the bathroom to brush my teeth and take a bath.
But the moment I opened the door
“AHHHHH!” I screamed
