fireBoth tribune and centurion entered the burning building and rousted its inhabitants out of their rooms forcefully. Half dragging, half carrying many of the older inhabitants out in their arms, they dumped them on the street and then raced back into the building again. The flames swept through the building with incredible speed. Each time they flung themselves through the flames they wondered if it would be their last moments of life. But each time they came out of the building with someone and deposited them into the waiting arms of people who had come to either help fight the fire or to observe the horror of the doomed trapped inside.
