At the head of the column of men, Tiberius, sword in hand, was astride his black steed and screaming orders to his men. From the front and rear the ranks of gladiators continued to march slowly down the narrow channel of the road toward them. But on their flank the gladiators who were making their way through the trees were finding it hard going. Here Tiberius decided to attack first. Leading his personal body guard, along with a dozen or so other horsemen, the next Caesar plunged into the depths of the closely packed trees and straight toward a tiny gap which had naturally opened in the middle of the gladiator"s line.
