Compared to the press conference that Grace had held during the investigation into the Jarrett murders, this conference was relatively low-key.
On that occasion, in front of the full glare of the BBC, ITN, Channel 4, and Sky News, ACC Martin Vickers had chopped the ground from beneath her feet by leaking details to Sky News ace reporter Kathy McNichol. He had done so to make Grace appear incompetent, leaving her unprepared for the barrage of questions about operational details and other information not previously released. Bastard!
This time, only the ‘Garside Gazette,’ the ‘Yorkshire Times,’ two nationals, and invited television crews from the BBC and ITV’s regional news programmes, Look North and Calendar were present. No Sky News and no Kathy McNichol, thank God.
