NINETY-SEVEN Prison officers searching David Jarrett’s cell found a sealed envelope addressed to the Governor. It had been folded up amongst the papers relative to his appeal, notably the letter from the Criminal Case Review Commission, the document explaining why his appeal had been rejected. For some reason, never explained, it took three days for the letter to get to the Governor’s desk. He was annoyed with the laxity of his staff as he slit open the envelope and withdrew the letter, fairly certain that it would be David Jarrett’s suicide note. Written in block letters, it read: I DID NOT KILL DONALD AND JANET JARRETT, MY ADOPTIVE PARENTS I REPEAT, I DID NOT KILL THEM. ALTHOUGH WE HAD OUR DISAGREEMENTS, I NEVER WISHED THEM ANY HARM.
