‘Grace’ said Claybourne when she answered her phone. ‘Just thought I should let you know. The Criminal Cases Review Commission has rejected David Jarrett’s appeal. So that’s good news, isn’t it? Not that we were ever worried of course. We did have a good, solid case, didn’t we?’
‘Yes sir, we did. Thank you for letting me know.’
Grace did not know whether she was pleased or disappointed by the news.
She still harboured doubts about David Jarrett’s conviction, but the evidence was, as Clybourne said, good and solid. The CPS, the Courts, and CCRC all thought so, so why did she still have those niggles of doubt?
