Del parked off the road behind a screen of wattle trees, her mind awhirl. She and Tiny walked the last few hundred metres to Westbrook. The last thing she wanted was for Carson to notice her car. They stepped onto a low bank to the left of the gates and made their way along the wall as Nick had advised. He’d been distant, curt even, on the phone, but it had still been wonderful to hear his voice after so long. Del couldn’t wait to see him. Although, she had no idea why he’d refused to meet her in town.
