Having fast and reliable internet was a game changer for Del. Each evening she immersed herself in research. She wanted to know all there was to know about her new agricultural endeavours. For grape growing she learned about soils, topography, vine vigour, yields and fruit composition. For winemaking she learned about the equipment she’d need: fermenters, barrels, pumps, a hydrometer, tubing, bottles and bottling equipment. She learned about the process: crushing, soaking, fermenting, racking, ageing and filtering. Del wanted to have a firm theoretical grasp before she had to be hands on. She pored over sheep pedigrees and stud books, identifying the best breeding lines and genetic combinations within her flock.
