For the first few weeks at Kingfisher Farm, Del mainly rested and tried to recover her equilibrium. She felt vaguely disconnected from the world and refused to watch the news. She spent her spare time reading old novels plucked from the jumbled bookshelf in the hall. It held a small but eclectic collection and Del rather liked the limited range. Fewer decisions to make, and it forced her to read out of her comfort zone: The Harp in the South, Remembering Babylon, Gould’s Book of Fish – books she would never have normally chosen.
