The next morning Del allowed herself the luxury of a lie-in. At first light, when Tiny whined to go out, she let him outside and went back to bed, hoping to grab forty more winks. Yet sleep eluded her. She could hear her mother in the kitchen – the kettle whistling and plates clinking. No doubt Darby was desperate for the explanation that Del had promised her. Del stretched and yawned, then reached for her earphones and mobile. There were two hours of recordings from yesterday to go through, but she particularly wanted to replay the part where Celia talked about Bobby.
