Chapter 5: Alexis is doing what?

1865 Words
***Atlas POV It's been almost two weeks since I last saw her. I’ve tried to keep myself distracted with work and relaxing but she is still on my mind. Noah and I have been having fun doing anything and everything. On base we took up training the newbies. The first few weeks of training is the funniest, but the most brutal for some. We exercise everyday, meet up with old friends and his family. Tomorrow is the meeting with the President and General Astrada. Noah and I have reviewed our plan and memorized what we need to in order for it to be approved. This mission is high priority and sensitive. It will take time and patience. Not sure how long our tour will be but I predict at-least 3-4months for it to be completed. It won’t only be me, Noah, Mr. President and the General. It will be most of my team, a few other ranked members and some extras. It’s being kept tight. Those who know are sworn to secrecy and have some of the highest security clearance. My men and I are meeting to get some food and drinks at a local pub tonight. We haven’t had a team get together since the club. Alexis POV Tomorrow is the meeting with my dad about the mission. However, we are meeting with my dad a little bit to tell my brother. He will be in the meeting, so he needs to know beforehand. It’s 11am and dad is coming up for lunch and to chat with Alex and I. I hear a knock at the door and Alex gets it. “Hey daddy” I yell from the kitchen. “Hey kids.” He says. Alex gives him a hug and they walk to the kitchen. We eat chicken and salad for lunch. While eating we laugh and joke and tell old stories about our family. Afterwards is when it gets serious and Noah notices the tension rise. “What’s going on?” He looks at me then at dad as he stares at me. “Son, you know about the meeting I need you for tomorrow to discuss a mission.” He looks confused and looks at me. “Yes, I will be there but should we be discussing this with Lexi here?” My dad sighs. He is worried about how Alex will react when he hears what’s happening. “Alex, she knows about the mission because she is joining the special forces team going on the mission. She is a doctor and with her language skills, she is a valuable asset. She agreed to go and assist.” Alex jumps up and runs his hands through his hair and face as he paces back and forth registering the information my father just told him. “NO!” Alex says. “You can’t send her there, are you out of your mind. She can get killed.” Alex protests. I sigh and stand up and walk to Alex and grab his hands and look at his teary eyes. “I know you are scared about what could happen but I want to do this. I need to do this. I will have my own gear, weapons and all and a whole team of special forces soldiers behind me for protection. I can do this but I need your support.” “Son, I know you're scared and honestly I am too, but this was her decision. We went over all the details and risks and she still agreed to join.” My father said. Alex looks at me as tears rolling down his face, “you can’t do this Lexi, I can’t lose you, not to the bastards over there. I don’t know what I’d do if I lost you.” My heart aches that he is scared and I start to get teary-eyed too, “I feel the same way you feel now when you leave for deployments. It hurts but I know you're doing good. Now it’s my turn. I can do something that really matters. I promise to be careful and I promise to fight to come home to you both.” I smile, wiping mine and his tears away. My dad looks at us with admiration for our strength and bond we have as siblings. After that very much needed talk we go over details and Alex asks any questions he needs to be on board. It takes some coercion but he finally agrees to support me. It’s been hours and we are just spending time together as a family. We decided to invite Kailey and Jacob over to join us on our binge watch our favorite show. We all stay up and watch Netflix and eat wings. It was the perfect night. *** The following morning I wake up to Alex trying to move my legs off of him so he can get up. I look around and see that everyone is passed out on my couch, even my dad. I giggle quietly. I ask Alex to take a picture of us all while they are still passed out. I wake everyone up and cook some breakfast. It’s almost noon and the meeting is set to take place at 2pm. Once we all eat I set off to get ready. I have to look professional but nice at the same time, something that breathes that I can’t be intimidated by a bunch of soldiers. Alex is wearing his green cami uniform. I opted for a white pantsuit with a pink blouse and white heels. My hair is down and curly with a braid, makeup is beautifully done. I am ready. ***Alex POV It’s been a great few days home, spending time with my sister and exploring my home town made me realize how much I’ve missed it. We are having lunch with my father and Lexi and Lexi is making my two favorite things: chicken and salad. We eat as a family and it’s great. Tomorrow is the meeting with my father and several special forces soldiers to approve a mission. My father lets me join for my rank and experience in which may be needed. I am not going but my insight is always valuable. I am brought out of my thinking by my dad knocking at the door. “I’ll get it.” I say to my sister. She is finishing the cooking while I greet dad. “Hey dad.” I embrace him in a hug. “Hey son, how are you ?” “I’m good, it's good to be home. Lexi and I have been exploring anything and everything.” “That’s good to hear. Are you ready for tomorrow?” I nod yes to his question about the meeting. “Lunch is ready!” Lexi says. We walk into the dining room and sit down for lunch. It’s been full of laughter and old memories with some new ones. Once we get done I notice they go silent and the tension rises through the roof. “What’s going on?” I say looking at Lexi then back at my father. “Son, you know about the meeting I need you for tomorrow to discuss a mission.” “Yes, I will be there but should we be discussing this with Lexi here?” He sighs while I look at Lexi who has this unfazed look on her face. Like she knows something I don’t. Like another shoe is about to drop. I see emotion in her but nothing I can read which is rare. “Alex, she knows about the mission because she is joining the special forces team going on the mission. She is a doctor and with her language skills, she is a valuable asset. She agreed to go and assist.” I start to get heated, I am pissed. I have to stand up and get out of arm's reach. Is he crazy? Sending my baby sister into a war zone. Why would he even consider this. She could die! I can’t lose her. I start to tear up from the fear of it but before I say anything else the word leaves my mouth. “NO!” I say with my command tone. He might not like it but there is no way this is happening. “You can’t send her there, are you out of your mind. She can get killed!” I look at Alexis who knows my fear is losing her and she gets up taking a deep breath before walking to me. “I know you are scared about what could happen but I want to do this. I need to do this. I will have my own gear, weapons and all and a whole team of special forces soldiers behind me for protection. I can do this but I need your support.” I sigh and look at my father. “Son, I know you're scared and honestly I am too, but this was her decision. We went over all the details and risks and she still agreed to join.” “You can’t do this Lexi, I can’t lose you, not to the bastards over there. I don’t know what I’d do if I lost you.” I struggle to say to her as she is wiping the tears off my face. I see hers start to fall. She is looking at me and says, “I feel the same way you feel now when you leave for deployments. It hurts but I know you're doing good. Now it’s my turn. I can do something that really matters. I promise to be careful and I promise to fight to come home to you both.” I can’t help but take a deep breath trying to pull myself together. Is that what she feels like when I leave? This passion of fear is scary and it hurts. I never wanted her to be scared like this. Now I know the feeling and I see that she wants to do this. “Okay, you do this but you better come home to me and dad.” I say in a calm approving-non approving way. She smiles and nods. The night was great. Speeding time with family and friends eating wings was the most relaxing thing ever. Despite my work for tomorrow, Alexis seems okay and that is something I didn't expect. We all pass out. *** It’s morning, the day of the meeting. I’m the first one awake and everyone is passed out. I try to move and realize she is on me. I carefully try to wiggle her legs but she wakes up. I smile at her and she moves so I can go relieve myself. As I am walking away she asks me to take a picture of us all. After breakfast we all get ready for the meeting in a little over an hour. I wore my green cami uniform and she decided to wear a white pantsuit. She looks ready to take on the world and a bunch of soldiers who are no doubt going to question her.
