Chapter 6 Continued: Atlas’s POV

Atlas POV

The meeting commences and everyone is in the room. The door is shut and locked. Blinds are closed. Security is outside for protection of all inside. Everyone stood to attention until the President said at-ease and sat down. Noah and I presented our plan with alternative actions if necessary and the GA seemed to like it. Mr. President gave the overall approval. However I felt a but, coming along.

Mr. President looks at the crowd and then at the GA. “However, we are adding someone new to your team. Someone who can connect in ways you and your team cannot. This person is a doctor with many language skills.” I am a little confused. Why would they add someone new to our team? I look at Noah confused. I look back at the President “Sir, no disrespect but adding someone to our team who doesn’t know our training and methods can get someone killed.”

MSG Knight jumps in as I finish voicing my concerns, “Kelly, you have no idea what this person can do. They have extensive training in both hand to hand and weapons. Not to mention the medical skills outweigh my own. They will be a valuable asset.” What else is going on here? What am I missing? I nod at Knight understanding the value this person may have. The General finally adds another issue: “the person we are speaking of is a civilian.” I look at Noah and my team, they are all wondering the same thing. They haven’t said it yet but we are missing something.

Noah says something in Dutch “This is a terrible idea Atlas. How do we know we can trust this person. Object to this, and demand we know who this person is.” I nod “Sir, how do we know if we can trust this person? Before we come to a decision can we meet them?” I say this in response to my team's concerns. “The decision has been made but you’re welcome to meet her. She is a very valuable asset and we can trust her. She was hand-picked by the president for her skills. Her training is very skilled to take on anything.” That gave me some shock. He said She, as in a female, was joining our team. Before I have time to respond I hear another member of my team speak in German, “A girl! They want to add a woman to our team. She probably has no idea what she's doing.” I shake my head as I am still puzzled by what the GA and The President have announced.

When I hear a voice coming from the back of the room. I turn to look at the beauty walking in. She is speaking in Italian.“ Not only am I a woman but I know how to take care of myself. My fighting skills are excellent as are my weapon skills. I am also a doctor who saves soldiers daily. If necessary I would save you even though you're degrading me.” I turn to see the woman and I can’t help but allow my jaw to drop. It’s her. It’s the beautiful woman who stole my heart with a night of intimate dancing.

I look at Noah with an omg look who is holding his laughter in. He knows why. I turn back and our eyes meet. She is even more gorgeous in professional attire. I am trying to maintain my composure so the President doesn’t know I know this woman. “President Liam Knight, why don’t you introduce the woman who is joining the team.” GA says. “Gentlemen, this is Doctor Alexis Knight.” Holy f*cking-sh*t!! She is the President's daughter. No wonder she has such a high VIP status. That’s why she topped Noah and I at the club. I am lost for words and my stomach turns in knots.

I look at Noah who is just as shocked as I am. Wait, she is a doctor? Another soldier throws the most obvious question out there, “Wait, Knight as in you Mr. President?” “Yes, we are related. I am the daughter of the President.” She says with grace. “Sir, I mean no harm but allowing your daughter to tag along puts a bigger target on our backs.” She turns to her father and he nods in approval for her to respond.

“I am tagging along and you're more than welcome to check up on me via the media. I don’t exist to them. I have never been publicized as I care about my work then partying 24/7. I stay hidden and I have managed to do it for years. You have no reason to worry. There are very few people in and out of this room who know the real me. My skills in medicine do not compare to MSG Knight’s. I have a full medical degree. As for combat skills - I have been trained my entire life to take care of myself. The past 8 years my trainer/bodyguard has been a retired Navy Seal. I know what I am doing. I know how to do my job. Now if any of you can’t adapt to the fact I am a woman for this mission then you need to reevaluate your job description.” She says with pure confidence. Wow, that was incredibly hot. She knows what she is talking about. I look at Noah and he seems to be on the same page.

General Estrada seems to have serious confidence in Alexis. “She is right, She knows her duty and as a civilian she was not obligated to assist but she wants to. She saves soldiers. And she may have to be there for one of you to make it.” He is right. She very well could be the reason we make it back home alive. I see her gaze go to the door that has unlocked and opened to allow someone in. “Sorry for the interruption Mr. President, General. My name is Staff Sergeant Ethan Jones. I was injured in Iraq with another soldier and shipped home. I can vouch for Dr. Knight. She saved my arm so I may return to active duty soon and she saved my brother who is still recovering in the ICU.” She smiles at the soldier and at her brother.

She saved 2 soldiers who were injured overseas. Maybe they are not giving her as much credit as she deserves. I look at my team and nod in approval waiting for theirs in response. They all agreed and I said, “Very well, welcome to the team. Sir, I promise to do everything I can to protect your daughter should she need it.” Alexis smiles at me and Noah. Seems like she remembers him from that night also.

I see the door closest to us open and it's a man whom I am assuming is Alexis’s bodyguard. She gives one last glance at me then her father before leaving with her guard. “Mr. President, can we take a break?” I try not to sound desperate but I have to catch her. “15minute break then back here for final details.” I rush out with Noah at my heels. “Dude, what are your gonna do?” Noah says as I am searching the hallway. “Well one I have to find her. Then I’m going to talk to her.” I see her at the end towards the private hall. We make eye contact and her guard stays there. He signals I can come. I get to the hall as she is still walking.

I walk a little further and yell her name “Alexis!” She stops and turns. After a minute we meet each other halfway as she throws herself in my arms and instantly kisses me. I automatically kiss her back. Oh how it feels to finally have her in my arms again.

As she pulls away I can’t help but smile. My arms are still on her waist. “I…I swear I had no idea who you were.” She mumbles and I can’t help but laugh and cup her face in my hands. “I had no clue the beautiful girl who invaded my every thought was none other than the President's daughter. I should’ve never let you go without giving you my name and number.” “Well you're not leaving me again until you get them this time. I’m Doctor Alexis Jane Knight, also known as the President’s daughter.” I smile, “Nice to meet you Alexis. I am First Sergeant Atlas Easton Kelly. And I have been crazy about you since that night.” She giggles in this adorable way that is intoxicating. “Nice to meet you, soldier.”

Alexis pulls away and I turn back seeing the signal her bodyguard gave her. “Here, give me your phone. They took mine for the meeting. I put my number in and texted myself. I will call you later. We have a lot to discuss.” I say as she giggles. I start to walk away when I see her bodyguard.

Alexis walks towards the elevator and gets in. Her bodyguard stops me. “Kelly” I turn at the sound of my name. “I’m Cohen, Lexi’s bodyguard and trainer.” I shake his hand and he tightens his grip. “I swear if you hurt that girl in any way I will find out. You will have to deal with me. I will do anything to protect her. Do I make myself clear?” “I understand, and I have no intention in hurting or letting her go again. I hope I made myself clear.” He nods his head and walks to the elevator to get back to Alexis.
