*Freya* Zac doesn’t say anything; he just marches up the steps right behind me. When we are both safely inside Dashiel’s front hall, I steal a glance at him. The muscle in his cheek is still twitching, and the tension in his jaw and neck is visible. He is definitely angry. Maybe even as angry as I am. But I don’t understand why he even cares. He had made his disdainful feelings for me abundantly clear yesterday afternoon, and his appearance in Woodside’s study, presumably to save me from some perilous fate, is really quite puzzling. “The carriage is ready,” Dashiel says quietly as he walks back into the hall a few minutes later, his hands clasped behind his back.
