Long and bumpy ride

500 Words
The sun was getting hotter and the car was filled with thick tension. So I asked Clay if he wanted a little break from driving, after all we left at dawn and he has been concentrating on the road for more than 6 hours. He reluctantly agreed, making me promise to respect his 'baby'. I was also getting pretty tired from the lack of sleep and the jet lag from the previous day but I was being fueled by adrenaline so I figured I was still good. He did however manage to loose truck tailing behind us, which made ne more at ease. I figured that we were heading to a plane or something but the guys haven't told me anything yet.. After couple of hours we desided we need to get food and Clay resumed his position as driver. Two hours later we arrived at a small air field with a single little plane waiting for us. As soon as we boarded the captain asked us to buckle up and he started to take off. Dawid was sitting next to me and I realized for the first time since this morning that he is only a thirteen year old and so I gave him a big hug and pulled him closer so that he could sleep while we where in the air. As David started to drift into sleep I looked up and Clay was watching us closely with a small smile. He then picked Mindy up bridal style and walked to the back of the plane. I put some earphones after hearing the first moan and looked out the small window on my left. We where in the air for about three hours when it suddenly felt as if we where dropping. I let out a small scream which woke David up and Clay came back looking at me, he felt it too. So he slowly made his way to the cockpit only to come back saying that the pilot was having a seizure. I got up and tried to help the pilot while he and David tried getting to a landing base. That is when we all heard a blast sound coming from the back and the plane started plummeting towards the ground fast. Mindy seemed to have woken up at last, but was rather pissed when she came to us before realizing what was happening. Clay was trying to stay calm but I could see the fear in his eyes. So I got up from the pilot who had stopped seizing but was still unconscious and went to the back to look for anything that could help. We were rapidly dropping and Clay came standing next me when we heard the second explosion and I looked at him knowing we were about to hit the ground. He took me into his arms shielding me with his body as the plane made impact with the ground... Mindy's scream rang through my ears and then everything went dark.
