CHAPTER 4: ZAZINA'S POV

1090 Words
It’s been two days since I was flogged again but this time, it was in the cell. I was whipped for stealing and disobeying his orders. I was still meant to do most of the works in the manor. I was hurrying along the hallway when I heard some hushed voices coming from the room I was passing. My curiosity piqued when I heard Rexina’s voice, followed by her father’s own. I quickly checked to see no one coming, I quietly proceeded closer and pressed my ears close to the door. “We need to take away that position now.” I heard the Beta say. What position was he talking about? “Do you think it’s going to be that easy, father?” That voice certainly belonged to Rhegan. “I know it’s not going to be easy but nothing good comes easy.” “Tell Rhegan again, father.” Rexina chuckled, she was mocking her brother. “He doesn’t seem to have big dreams or any dreams at all.” “Mind your tongue with me Rexina.” Rhegan sounded angry and felt insulted. “Or what? Hmm? What will you do, big brother?” Rexina mocked further. “That’s enough, the two of you. You both should not be fighting yourselves, we have a common enemy.” “Heagan, I know.” Rexina replied. The Lycan King? He was the common enemy? But I thought the Beta was a loyal second in command, what was going on here? My curiosity getting the better of me, I eavesdropped to hear more. “Yes, you need to keep him distracted. I am working in something at the moment and though I’m yet to see the result, I think it will work out.” The Beta said. “What is that, father?” Rhegan inquired. “The Lycan King is too powerful to be handled alone, we will need to form alliances with other enemy packs. We need to find a way to make them come after him.” The Beta explained. I gasped, clamping a hand over my mouth so I don’t get caught because I’d let a noise slip pass my lips. The Beta was trying to set the Lycan King up? But why? For what reason? “But even at that father, I don’t think few packs coming against Heagan is enough to bring him down. He’s too powerful for that.” Rexina uttered. Even Rexina wanted to hurt the Alpha too? I thought she loved him, that was the reason why she was making life unbearable for me. But she had a different agenda? This was despicable beyond measure. “You think I don’t know that?” The Beta replied quite harshly, irritation edging his voice. “His father was strong too and fought hard but he still went down, his son would be no different. If I could get the father, I’d surely get the son.” “I wonder how Heagan will feel when he realizes his own uncle is willing to destroy him just to keep being in control of his birthright.” Rexina pointed out rather evilly. “He won’t be alive to ever find out.” Rhegan said. “Exactly.” Beta Fakael agreed. “Now listen children, this plan will not be executed hastily. It will surely need a lot of planning, we need not to leave any stone unturned.” “Yes, I agree with you father.” I heard Rhegan say. “Have you ever heard of a Fire Wolf?” The Beta asked. “What’s that?” Rexina inquired. “Probably a wolf that breathes fire, just like a dragon.” Rhegan joked. “Be serious for once Rhegan.” Rexina admonished. “I just need the power of a Fire Wolf and I will easily have everything I need.” The Beta said. The man was sounding so evil and mean. How could he be planning this? Trying to betray the Lycan King and usurp him? “We still don’t know what a Fire Wolf is, father.” Rexina interjected. “They are the most dangerous and powerful kind of werewolf. More powerful than a Lycan King. They can destroy you with a glare, their anger can pull down a building.” The Beta explained. I had never heard of a Fire Wolf before and if such wolves existed, I hope the man never came across one nor get access to their powers. He was utterly evil. “Those kind of wolves exist?” I heard the disbelief in Rhegan’s tone. “Yes they do and I think I have seen one.” The Beta clarified. “Where?” Rexina asked. “Never mind that. Rexina keep clinging unto Heagan until we’ve got him where we need him.” I heard the shuffle of feet, a sign that they were coming. I quickly ran out of there, my heart racing with all I’d heard. I needed to tell the Lycan King what I’d just heard. He needed to know, he needed to be aware. I ran until I got to the meeting room where I knew he usually stayed to host meetings and other important stuff. He eyed me as I stood before him. I quickly bowed before I’d be punished for not paying respect. “What do you want?” As expected, his tone was harsh and sharp. “I..I have something to…” “Don’t you have any duty to be doing?” The cold steeliness of his tone caused me to quiver. “I..I just came…” I hated how I stuttered but I couldn’t help it. He scared me too much, made me tremble and lose my voice. I was actually trying to save him here but he was not giving me the chance to. Beta Fakael and his children were trying to take away his position but he was not listening. What would it take for him to actually listen to me for once? He didn’t have to be this mean and harsh to me always. “What are you still doing here?! Leave my presence.” “But I just…” “Raise your head and look at me.” I did. “If you do not leave my presence right this minute, I will make you regret it.” Flashes of what he’d done to me; the punishments I’d undergone came into my mind. Not wanting to land into another trouble with me, I ran out of his sight.
