Chapter 17 Twigs snapped and leaves rustled with every step Layne took. The journey he made from the house through the woods was vague. He didn’t remember why he’d begun the hike in the first place, but when he broke through the tree line and saw an open field, a sense of peace fell over him. It was the same field he’d seen in Adalyn’s visions. A sultry breeze ruffled his shirt as he stood at the edge of the grass, listening to a stream babble somewhere in the distance.
