ch 13

400 Words
Life had fallen into a comforting rhythm for Rain and Phayu, each day blending into the next in a warm, steady pace. But as they settled into this new phase, an unexpected message from Rain's mother hinted at a family event approaching—a gathering to celebrate his father’s birthday. Rain hadn’t been to a large family gathering in a while, and the thought both excited and worried him. That evening, Rain shared the news with Phayu, fingers moving a bit faster than usual as he signed, "It’ll be the first time I’m bringing you to a family gathering as my boyfriend." Phayu smiled, sensing the mixture of joy and nerves in Rain’s expression. He leaned closer, resting a hand gently on Rain’s. “It’s okay to feel nervous. But remember, I’m here for you. We’ll handle whatever comes, together.” As the weekend arrived, they found themselves preparing for the big day. Rain, who usually kept things simple, took extra care in picking his outfit, glancing occasionally at Phayu for reassurance. Phayu, ever patient, offered his opinions with a calm smile, until Rain was finally satisfied. They arrived at the gathering, the space bustling with Rain’s family, familiar faces catching up and laughing. Rain squeezed Phayu’s hand, drawing strength from his presence, and then signed, "Let’s go meet everyone." Throughout the day, Rain’s family welcomed Phayu warmly, a few curious relatives asking how they communicated. Phayu handled each question with grace, explaining how he’d learned to sign to be with Rain. Rain’s heart swelled with pride as he watched Phayu interact with his family, feeling a new layer of belonging settle over him. As the evening wore on, they found themselves alone for a moment, taking in the view from the balcony. Rain’s eyes sparkled as he looked at Phayu, hands moving slowly to sign, "Thank you for being here with me. Seeing you with my family… it’s like a dream." Phayu reached out, his fingers grazing Rain’s cheek. “You don’t need to thank me, Rain. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.” Rain leaned into Phayu, letting the comfort and warmth of the moment sink in. In that quiet space, he realized just how deeply they’d become part of each other’s lives. Whatever the future held, Rain knew they would face it as they had faced everything so far—together, hand in hand, without fear.
