I shifted on the edge of the bed, the heavy, carb-induced calm of the pizza finally taking the edge off the night. Kenzie was already moving, her movements fluid and deliberate as she cleared a space on the nightstand. She reached into her bag, pulling out a velvet pouch with a look of quiet focus. "Alright," she murmured, her voice losing its playful edge as she slid the deck out. "The world is settled. The hunger is gone. Now it’s just the math of the universe laid out in seventy-eight cards." I watched her hands as she started to shuffle. The thwip-thwip-thwip of the cardstock was the only sound in the room.
