On the twenty-fourth, exam results were released.

I was top of my grade every year, so I was confident in my performance. But in the dream, Liora's interference and that spoiled cake had made me too distracted to focus, leaving me just above the cutoff for a four-year degree.

Liora, meanwhile, had graduated years before. Though she had been an excellent student in her youth, she had not had time to study before the exam after being reborn, so she only qualified for a two-year college program.

In that other life, I had believed Liora's lies about my birth family, and stayed behind when my adoptive parents asked me to.
