When it was time to check, I logged into the system. My parents watched more nervously than I was.
Before I could click, my adoptive father called. He sounded breathless with excitement.
"Linnea! Your school called here, your results are out! 709 points! You are the top scorer in the city, no, the whole region!"
I had the call on speaker, so my birth parents heard too. They were overjoyed.
The weight lifted from my chest.
I spoke calmly into the phone, "Thank you, Father."
He replied warmly, pride thick in his tone, "Of course! Your mother is so happy," he continued quickly. "The admissions teams from Holloway University and Cresswell University have called too. I gave them your new address. They may come by soon."
My mother looked at me, hopefully. I knew she still cared for Liora, so I asked, "Father, how did Liora do? What was her score?"
