CHAPTER 2

814 Words
Coming out of the private room, Terrance silently gave me a thumbs-up and asked again, "Yelena, are you truly getting a divorce this time?" I stood at the entrance of the club, watching Leo's car parked side by side with the red limited-edition sports car he had given Claire as if they were cuddling. Leo had always been flamboyant in his pursuit of women. When he was chasing me, he sent flowers and asked me out to dinner every day, dangling himself in front of me all the time as if he wanted the whole world to know that he had made huge efforts to seek attention from me. After three years of dating and three years of marriage, Leo had grown tired of me. He said he didn't like strong women like me. But from the very beginning, when he was chasing me, I was the strongest female racer and director of the club, in charge of most of the club's affairs. In the past two years, he had even gone a step further, bringing other women home now and then. I couldn't stand it and argued with him countless times. He always threatened me with divorce. But every time before, it was I who gave in first. I didn't want to leave him. He seemed to know that I wouldn't agree to a divorce, so he went even further and began to brazenly chase other women in front of me. He gave them flowers, bags, and sports cars. Damn it, these were my marital property. I couldn't let them get away with it. I took the spare key out of my bag and got into Leo's car. I calculated the angle and force and answered Terrance with practical action. With a loud bang, I used Leo's car to ram into the back of Claire's new sports car, denting its rear end. The front of the car was against the wall, basically totaled. Then I threw down the spare key and got out of the car. The sun outside was dazzling, but it also seemed to be scorching the fragmented marriage that I had worked so hard to maintain for many years. ***** In the evening, I received a video from Terrance. In the video, Claire threw herself into Leo's arms and cried out. "My car... What happened to my car..." Leo stood on the steps, smoking irritably. It seemed that he had already checked the surveillance cameras. "She's going too far... Mr. Lucas. I'm not heartbroken about the car, but this is a gift from you. I've only driven it for three days. Let's call the police, Mr. Lucas..." Someone whispered, "It may be useless to call the police. Yelena is Mr. Lucas's wife. Mr. Lucas's car is her car. She crashed her car. The police can't do anything about it..." Someone clicked their tongue in wonder, "Yelena is daring!" Leo fiercely put out the cigarette butt in his hand. "Good, very good! Tomorrow, we'll go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get this settled!" ... I silently turned off the video and began to sort out the documents needed for the divorce. ***** The next day, I arrived at the Civil Affairs Bureau early to wait for Leo. The moment I saw Leo emerge from the taxi, I breathed a sigh of relief. "Yelena, I'll give you one last chance..." Leo said to me. I stopped and said with a half-smile, "Let me give up my ranking to Claire, apologize to her, and buy her a new car?" Leo said with a cold face, "Claire is a good girl. I can't let her suffer this kind of grievance!" "In that case, how can you let her be the mistress? Shouldn't you give her a title? I'll help you." I sneered and walked straight to the service window. Leo's face darkened, and he slammed the divorce agreement and documents on the counter. The staff saw the breakdown of our relationship and didn't say much. A few minutes later, we got our hot-off-the-press divorce certificates. It was so fast that Leo seemed a little caught off guard. He clenched the divorce certificate tightly in his hand, his knuckles turning white. "What new tricks are you playing this time, trying to get my attention? I'm telling you, it's useless! I'd like to see how you're going to end this after making such a scene!" In his eyes, my injured leg and near month-long hospital stay were just a ploy to get his attention. And asking for a divorce was just a deliberate attempt to make a scene with him. I don't know how Leo and I ended up like this. But I have made up my mind. This time, I will not turn back. I threw the wedding ring I had taken off last night back to him, decisively taking a big step away.
