As we finished our lunch, my phone buzzed on the table with a new notification.
I tapped the screen, and my heart nearly leaped out of my chest—a picture popped up of Caleb standing in front of a mirror, completely topless, showcasing his ripped torso, broad shoulders, and defined abs.
I almost threw my phone across the room.
“Shocks! Let me see!” Dell snatched the phone out of my hands before I could hide it.
She gasped loudly while my chest heaved in pure shock. “Are you sure he’s not your boyfriend?!”
How did he even get my number?!... Oh, right. I gave it to him yesterday.
I snatched my phone back and saw a text message below the image:
Our boss said you need to work overtime today. Meet me at 5:00 PM in Room 104.
I rolled my eyes dramatically. “Boss? I don’t even know who the boss is! How am I supposed to believe a flirtatious liar like you?” I muttered, shoving the phone back into my pocket.
“Dell, let me get back to work before that pervert gives me a heart attack.”
Caleb’s POV
“What is she going to do with my black card?” I murmured, watching the live security feed on my office monitor.
″That card will satisfy all of her problems.″
All of the girls I met this woman are different, not clingy, yet so gorgeous. I want those curves, her soft lips, and that intimidating waist f**k.
″I’m ordering you to calm down. Why are you always like that when we saw Lauren? You're always hard and thick.″
″Fuck erection, I’m I this really hard on her″
″She’s not ready to meet me as the owner of this hotel, and I don’t want her to be upset with me. I want to have her at least one night with me. I want to f**k her.″ As I bit my lower lip, I couldn’t control the desires that were building in my mind when I saw her.
I called Jared, my assistant ‘I want you to act as the boss of this hotel’
″But sir, what will we do to the casino if they want to see you? I can’t handle those big people.″
“Don’t worry about the casino. I’ll handle the underground operations myself. You just play the role of the hotel owner for the regular staff—specifically in front of Lauren.”
“And what’s your endgame, sir?” Jared chuckled knowingly.
“I want her to be mine,” I said, my voice dropping into a dark, lethal register. “All mine.”
“Well, look who’s here,” a sharp, high-pitched voice sneered as I walked past the lobby lounge. “Aren’t you the clumsy staff member who brought my bags up earlier?”
It was the arrogant woman from earlier—the one who had thrown herself into Caleb’s arms.
“Yes, ma’am. How can I help you?” I asked politely, putting on my best customer service face.
“Something is missing from my luggage, and I can’t find it anywhere,” she accused, placing her hands on her hips. “You must have stolen it!”
Ah, rich people. The moment something goes missing, their first instinct is to blame the staff.
“Ma’am, I assure you, I would never do such a thing.”
“So, you’re calling me a liar?!” she snapped, her eyes flashing with anger. “Do you even know who I am?!”
“Well, ma’am, you said it, not me,” I replied, offering her a sweet, razor-thin smile. “And with all due respect, I don’t really care who you are.”
“Why, you insolent little—!” She gasped in offense. “How dare you speak to me like that!”
Keep it together, Lauren. It’s your first day. Don’t punch a guest.
“Ma’am, I am simply defending myself.”
“I happen to be very close with the owner of this hotel, and I can get you fired with a single phone call!”
My ears instantly perked up. Finally! A lead!
“Oh really?” I asked, feigning curiosity. “And who exactly is the owner of this hotel?”
“Caleb! My future husband!” she announced proudly.
My brain came to a screeching halt. Caleb?!
“What’s the matter? Stunned?” she sneered, mistaking my shock for fear. “Now, are you going to return my missing item, or should I have you arrested for robbery?”
“Bring this ‘owner’ in front of me first,” I replied calmly. “And for your information, I didn’t take anything from your bags. I didn’t even open them.”
Her face flushed crimson with rage. She yanked out her phone and speed-dialed a number.
“Caleb! I need you down here right now!” she whined dramatically into the receiver. “Your staff is harassing me and calling me a liar!”
My heart hammered against my ribs. Was Caleb really the owner?!
A few moments later, a tall man in a tailored suit approached us. He carried himself with an undeniable air of authority, though he lacked the dark, dangerous edge that Caleb possessed.
“Ms. Natalie, what seems to be the problem?” the man asked smoothly.
“Where is Caleb?!” Natalie demanded.
“I don’t know where Caleb is at the moment, but I am Jared—the owner and head boss of this hotel,” he stated, his voice commanding absolute respect.
My jaw dropped. Jared is the boss?!
“You’re lying! I want to see Caleb right now!” Natalie shrieked.
“I will not tolerate this disrespect from your staff!”
“Ah, Caleb is my personal assistant,” Jared explained smoothly.
“He’s currently occupied with other matters.”
A massive sigh of relief washed over me. Thank God! So, Caleb really is just an assistant! I knew he wasn’t the owner!
“Ms. Natalie, we can discuss this in my office,” Jared offered politely.
“No! Caleb is the owner, and you’re just his subordinate!” she spat, pointing an accusing finger at me. “She stole from my bags!”
“Ms. Natalie, Lauren is one of our most trusted new hires. Did you check your bags thoroughly before arriving, or perhaps misplace the item?” Jared reasoned patiently.
“Where is Caleb?!” she repeated stubbornly.
Jared’s brows furrowed slightly in irritation. He turned to me. “Lauren, did you take anything?”
“No, sir. I swear on my life,” I answered truthfully.
“I only brought her two suitcases up to her room, set them down, and left immediately when she walked in.”
“Maybe you opened them while my back was turned!” Natalie snapped.
“Then feel free to review the hallway and room entrance CCTV footage, ma’am,” I countered smoothly.
Jared nodded in agreement. “Alright. Ms. Natalie, please follow me to my suite so we can review the security tapes. And Lauren...” Jared turned to me.
“Please meet my assistant at the exact time he messaged you for your overtime duties. I’ll handle this.”
“Thank you, sir!” I said, bowing politely.
I took a deep breath as they walked away. Whew! What a chaotic first day.
I checked my wristwatch—it was almost 5:00 PM. I touched up my hair, smoothed down my skirt, and made my way to Room 104.
I stood outside the heavy wooden door, taking a moment to steel my nerves. Alright, Lauren. You’re here to do your overtime work and give Caleb his black card back.
I knocked softly on the door. To my surprise, it swung open automatically.
I took a tentative step inside the dimly lit room. Before I could even locate the light switch, a pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped tightly around my waist, pulling my back flush against a broad, solid chest.
“Wait! It’s pitch black in here! Let go of me, whoever you are!” I yelled, wriggling in his grip.
“Do you prefer the lights off, hubby?” a deep, velvety voice whispered right against my ear.
“You i***t! Turn the lights on! I can’t see anything!” I snapped, elbowing him lightly in the ribs. “And put some clothes on! Why are you so small anyway?!”
He instantly froze, releasing his grip on me, and flicked the light switch on.
When the lights flooded the room, I almost burst out laughing.
Caleb was standing there, fully clothed in a sleek suit, looking like he had just lost the lottery. His arms were crossed, and a dramatic pout was plastered across his handsome face.
“Anyway, the boss sent me here,” I said, clearing my throat and trying to act professional. “I finally met Boss Jared today!”
Caleb’s expression remained completely blank, his tone turning bored and flat. “Ah. Boss Jared.”
“Yeah! He totally defended me against that crazy woman earlier!”
Caleb’s demeanor shifted in a split second. “What woman? What did she do to you?”
“That Natalie woman. She accused me of stealing her things.”
Caleb’s eyes narrowed dangerously, his fists clenching at his sides as his jaw tightened.
“Hey... are you okay?” I asked, taken aback by his intense reaction. Is he... worried about me?
A dark, slow smile suddenly spread across his face as he stepped toward me.
“You know, Lauren... I want to show you something hot,” he murmured, stepping behind me and letting his fingers lightly trace the slope of my shoulders.
My heart did a traitorous little flip. Something hot?! Girl, pull yourself together!
“I’m here to return your black card,” I said hastily, pulling the card from my pocket and holding it out. “I didn’t use it for my lunch.”
“You can spend as much of my money as you want, Lauren,” he purred, leaning down so his breath fanned over the shell of my ear, sending shivers racing down my spine.
“I... I have to go! Boss Jared said I have overtime work to do!” I stammered, trying to step away.
Before I could move an inch, his hands clamped tightly onto my waist, locking me in place against his body.
“You’re not going anywhere,” he commanded softly, his deep voice carrying an undeniable authority that made my knees go weak.
I could feel the rising heat of his body pressed against mine, his hot breath lingering on my skin as the tension in the room snapped taut.
