I hear the sound of doors opening downstairs, and then footsteps are approaching from somewhere down the lobby.
I'm still pacing around the room. My heart thumps louder with every step.
"Mama," Rowan groans, doubling over, and I just stand there helpless, tears pouring down my cheeks.
My eyes snap to the door, staring at it till it blurs. The footsteps get closer. Bear touches my arm, but I barely react.
The handle of the door twists and it swings open.
I step back in shock. Standing at the door is Darius himself. In that moment, I'm too relieved to feel anything else.
I sight another wolf behind him, who I recognize to be his Pack Beta.
Darius's eyes looked down on mine immediately. He doesn't say much, but even after five years, a beat of understanding passes between us.
