Chapter Four Darlene was running through a mist. She couldn’t see anything in front or behind her. The mist created a low hum, which resonated throughout her body, making her skin aflame with heat. Darlene reached out, but her hand glided through empty space. Forever out of her grasp, the spirits remained around her, floating, silent, their secrets locked inside of them. Her eyes opened suddenly. It was pitch black and for a second she could feel the smothering of Rebecca’s hand on top of her mouth. She reached out wildly, as if to fend Rebecca off and hit something. “Hey, hey, it’s okay,” Idris mumbled in the darkness, his hand grasping hers. “I’m here. Rebecca can’t get in.
