CHAPTER TWO: HE HURT MATE Jason POV       'Three things can't be hidden; the sun, the moon and the truth. The crystals never lie, the one you will call 'luna' will bring darkness upon the clan your forefathers created, she will pose as a danger to werewolves.' The squeaking sound of forest crickets softly yanked me out of my reverie. I hissed and frowned at the tiny creatures that hopped in unison, each moved in a particular sequence. My jaw tightened in anger and I gulped yet another cold bottle of whiskey down my throat before forcefully smashing it on the forest ground. It was my third bottle and probably the last one I'll have for now.         Wasted, I was, but not entirely. I still remembered my encounter with Eliza like it was just yesterday, not one year ago. The prophecy still lingered somewhere in my head, the message it harbored haunted my sleep at night. Ever since Eliza, the blind witch bestowed upon me the fate of my pack, I felt shattered inside. I as well my inner wolf; Demetri, knew of the impending darkness that threatened to devour our entire pack, but what we had no insight of was the chain of events that accompanied it. Sadly, it was pronounced that my long awaited mate would bring doom to the black blood pack.         My pack.         The pack that my forefathers strived hard to form.         Unbelievable! right.         Yeah, I thought so too when I initially heard it come out from the lips of one the oldest witch of the French quarters who with witchcraft sustained her life for over a century. My father, Alpha Ryker before his tragic demise instructed me to sought the witch's help, that her visions would be of great help to me and my pack. Her prophecy was supposed to guide my path as an Alpha, it was supposed to strengthen my pack not destroy it. If my mate was darkness itself then I might as well reject her the moment I set my eyes on her, for the survival of my entire pack. Moreover, there were thousands of beautiful shewolves just dying to be addressed as my mate and Luna. Demetri whimpered sadly, I could feel his sadness from within me, he wanted her nevertheless, whoever or whatever she was, prophecy be damned.         Well, I didn't share his thoughts, I just couldn't. One of the few things I learnt from Alpha Ryker was to think with my brain and not my heart, the heart is weak and finicky, it's like a fragile toy that can easily be broken. Demetri wasn't thinking straight, he let emotions cloud his good judgements. The right and only thing to do was to reject my mate and be spared from the darkness she stood for.         From the hood of my car, I gazed at the pale moonlight and everything it signified; doom, chaos, darkness. Eliza's words of doom invaded my thoughts once again, succeeding in striking fear into my hardened heart. I shut my emerald eyes to wave it all away, but it came back even more stronger than before.         'On a full moon and in the forbidden forest, will you find your long awaited mate.' the blind witch's words replayed over and over in my head like an old cassette. Darn! I hated the way it plagued my mind.         "I have to get out of this godforsaken forest, I think its starting to mess with my head." I said to myself, dismounting from my car's hood, then I halted as my senses were ignited, someone in the forest was trying to mind link me.         Finn. I could detect his voice from anywhere.         'The forest isn't safe for you Alpha Jason, hunters and rogues are near. I'll come to get you.' Finn, my best friend and Beta alerted from within the forest. We had ventured into the forest together to secretly discuss about a safe way to avert the prophecy which wasn't a secret anymore, half of the pack if not the entire pack knew about the prophecy that involved their doom. I had ordered them to keep the prophecy a secret from the neighbouring packs, I had a feeling that it might spring up trouble for my pack. I told Finn that I needed to be alone, I wanted to rid my head from all the impurities that were all around me.         'No, you go. I'll be right behind you.' I mind linked him back, reaching for the door of my BMW when it struck me like a lightening bolt. The most enticing, desirable scent I ever came across; a merge of strawberry and vanilla perfume slid it's way into my nose, taking over all my senses in what seemed like just a second. Demetri growled possessively, he felt it, I damn well felt it too. We both knew whose scent it was, it was her, my----       'Mate!' Demetri proclaimed.                "And I think she's nearby," I added, plastering a light smile on my face for finally finding my mate. Why the hell did I smile? There was absolutely nothing amusing about finding my so-called mate. If I should feel something it's relieve and joy that very soon my pack would all be free from the dark prophecy.       'Now tell me what are you going to do now that you've finally found our...'       "I won't hesitate in rejecting her," I quickly cut Demetri off before he uttered the word 'Mate' a word I've grown to despise with much passion. She was his mate, not mine, well she wouldn't be his mate once I reject her.       'So that's the best plan you could come up with,' Demetri hissed inwardly, trying to taunt me like always.     "Believe me, the thought of eliminating her crossed my mind a thousand times, but I don't see violence as my sole option, now stop your whining and lets find her." With Demetri's help, I swiftly pinpointed and trailed the scent into the darkest part of the forest.  A part forbidden for most creatures of the forest, but I wasn't like most creatures. I halted on a nerve, tilting around in search of her, and there she was, cornered and attacked by two werewolves.       "Mine!" Demetri aggressively growled inside of me, he fought to intervene and rescue his mate who surprisingly by her scent was a fragile human.       'She's a freaking human, she is a human,' I can't believe that this weak human who couldn't even properly defend herself was allegedly going to bring darkness upon one of the deadliest pack in all of New Orleans. I must be dreaming, this must be a terrible joke. The Moon goddess must be having a good laugh right about now, without a doubt she must love making me suffer, well the jokes are on her this time because nothing's gonna stop me from rejecting her, not even these hungry wolves.       "Get away from her!" I acted fast, growling angrily, my growl thick with emotion and so much authority. I managed to steal their attention from her to me, the wolf larger than the other stepped forward with a growl not compared to mine. They sprinted to me, ready for a two on one battle which I knew I'll very much enjoy. Impatiently, I raced to them, shifting to my gigantic wolf in mid air, preparing to rip more than their hearts out. My bite is poison to other wolves, just a bite from me was enough to make them beg for a quick death, but I wouldn't want to ruin the fun of tearing them apart with my bare paws.       The biggest madly launched himself at me, alarmed, I tossed him against a tree, the impact left him in a whimpering state. Quickly, my eyes shifted to the damsel in distress, Demetri's human mate. She lay wounded on the ground, they must've roughed her badly.       'They hurt mate!,' Demetri angrily reminded me.       "Yes, and they'll pay for that." I assured, directing my furious eyes on the smallest wolf that stupidly launched himself at me. I slashed the already injured wolf with my paws and he fell straight to the ground where I tackled him fiercely, sinking my canines into its neck and ripping it open. He was dead in a matter of seconds which gave me time to focus my attention on other wolf half my size, he smelt like rogue, they both did. Judging by his hesitation to attack me, he already knew just how powerful I am, and his chances if he dared to go against me.         Absolutely zero.         With a blink of my dark red eyes, he retreated into the forest, a very wise decision I must confess. Without wasting time, I shifted into my human form before trotting to her side, kneeling down beside her, naked.         A pair of pain filled ocean blue eyes weakly glared at me, before shutting all by itself. I assessed how badly she was hurt, not extremely, thank the moon goddess for that, the last thing I wanted was for Demetri to constantly blame me for not swooping in to rescue his mate in the nick of time, believe me his whining could be tiring.       I removed the strands of perfect blonde hair that covered her eyes to get a really good look at Demetri's human mate; my doom. Strangely, being close to her made my heart race in a pleasant manner, inhaling her beautiful scent made my mouth water. But why did my mouth water for this dangerous human?            Confusion flooded into my being, questions I had zero answers to erupted in me, everything about her held me in some sort of daze I wasn't capable of escaping. But one thing was clear to me as day, she was a danger to me and my pack, one which I had to take care of before it escalated into something much worse. And by worse I mean catastrophic. I wish I could reject her on the spot, but I wasn't heartless enough to reject her in the state she was in, she was kind of semi-conscious.       Damn! my bad luck, I struggled so hard to locate her and now that I did I can't bring myself to reject her and end the damn prophecy. I could almost hear Demetri laughing at my predicament, he could laugh for all I care, there was nothing to be worried about, I would just call Finn to meet me here and have him take her to our secret warehouse, I'll reject her as soon as she regains her consciousness, problem solved.       I smirked at my brilliant plan, then I remembered I had left my cellphone in my car, a stupid mistake on my part, the night just kept getting better. Softly, she let out a moan without even opening her mouth. Her moaning fell on my deaf ears as I could care less about the pains she was passing through, she too had caused me a year of sleepless nights, I guess karma's a bad b***h.       Slowly retracting from her side, she gave another mild moan of distress, her moans pleaded with me. I could tell she was in a bundle of pain by the way she shivered uncontrollably on the ground, a soft part of me wanted to somehow lessen her pain, to take away all the heavy burden she carried inside and make her whole again. Not heeding to the other part of me that despised and wanted nothing to do with her, I cupped my her forehead, she was burning up, her forehead beaded with sweat.       Pain registered her face as worry registered mine, she was in need of a doctor and fast. I sharpily could head back to my car and call Harrison; the pack's doctor, but he'll take about two to three hours to get to the forest and by the looks of things she was in an urgent need of a doctor. I was helpless at her situation, but that didn't wither away the tingling sensation that raced down my spine when my fingers made contact with her burning skin.          Quickly, I snatched my hand away from her forehead in discomfort, she was doing something to me, something I rather hate to admit I enjoyed. She faintly blinked at me with those long lashes of hers, her lips parted as if she wanted to utter something but couldn't. Seeing her condition I couldn't help but wonder what she desperately wanted to tell me...   I pulled away, as soon as I heard loud thudding steps march closer to where we were. They were human hunters. Instantly, I raced through the forests, finding my beta waiting for me beside my car, his eyes holding something in it.     "Are you okay Alpha?"   I nodded, not meeting his eyes.   "The witch sent a message" he spoke into the moonlight night.     I turned my head to him. "Eliza?" I thought, what on earth was her message. "What does it say"     "Just three words. 'It has begun'
