Chapter 6 : Can you protect her?

1008 Words
"I mean your sister no harm, you have my word," Matt said firmly. "But can you protect her from harm, if she was attacked?" Emily signed as Will translated. "Who would want to attack a primary school teacher?" Matt asked, his eyes narrowing. "Answering a question with a question is not giving me the information that I require," Will said, and Emily nodded. "Then yes, I would be able to protect your sister, in the unlikely event of her being attacked," Matt said while sipping his coffee. "And do you love her? Darling, that is a very deep question. They have only been on one date! " Emily pouted as Will spoke. "I understand you are very protective of your sister, but, I am not sure we are dating or even if she feels that way," Matt said, honestly. Emily smiled and signed as Will said, "Yes, she does like you, I can tell." She went to a lot of effort last night to scare you off. If she didn't like you, she would not have bothered. My sister is very stubborn. It will be hard to win her heart. " Matt smiled at the thought of Lisa liking him. "Any tips to win her round?" Matt asked. Will continued to translate for Emily, "Time and let her take it at her speed. She has been hurt in the past very badly." "I see. Thank you. " Matt said, thinking about what he had learned. Maybe he wasn't about to be friend Zoned, but because their previous relationships were bad, she wanted to take things slow. Matt had time, and he could go as slowly as his lady desired. Matt's thoughts were broken by the sound of a key in the front door. At least the interrogation was now over, he thought. Lisa felt happy with the box of produce she had harvested from the community allotment. The community allotment was her one place of sanctuary, where she went to relax and think things through. It also helped that she got fruits, vegetables, and flowers that complemented their diets. Lisa felt more at peace as she opened the front door. Gardening always helped her feel that way. As soon as she got in, she teased, "Will and Emily, I am back, so stop all your smooching!" Lisa began to laugh but stopped as soon as she saw Matt. "Oh, you have come early, very early in fact!"  "What can I say, I am very keen!" Matt smiled as he said this. "Or desperate, though looking that handsome, I doubt it!" Signed, Emily Will was canny enough not to translate Emily’s words out loud. But he did not look happy at Emily calling Matt handsome. "That box looks heavy. Please let me take it into the kitchen for you. I would love to hear about the community garden." Matt said as he stood up and took the box off Lisa before she could protest.  "Yes, sure, the kitchen is right this way," Lisa said as they both turned and went into the kitchen. "I don’t like him. He is not telling us the whole truth about who he is." Emily signed, and Will did his best poker face. "Well, this is the kitchen, so, just put the box on the side there," Lisa said as she looked under the sink for a vase.  "Sweet Peas? They are very pretty. Matt mused as he looked at the bunch of flowers that were all different colours and shapes. "Yes, they take some effort to grow, but they are worth it. They are my favourite flowers, next to daffodils."  "Daffodils?"  "Yes. You know, the yellow flowers you see in spring." Lisa said as she started to arrange the flowers. Matt laughed and said, "I know what daffodils are, Lisa. I am just surprised. Most women prefer more expensive flowers like roses."  "Well, I am not most women."  "Yes, I figured that out last night. Really, Lisa, a wedding dress? " Lisa sighed, and Matt noticed her cheeks flush as she examined a marrow from the box."I am not going to apologise if that is what you are looking for." "Did I ask for one, amoreco?" Matt said, looking at her intently.  "Amoreco? What does that mean? "  "Hmm, well, if you go on a second date with me, without the wedding dress or slower cooker, I might be persuaded to tell you," Matt said seductively. "We already had one deal, if I went on one date, you would leave me alone. Remember?" "Oh, but that was on the basis that it was a proper date, without a slower cooker!" Matt pointed out. "You did not specify that in the deal!" Lisa retorted. "Tell me, does every man who asks you out have to go through this sort of negotiation?" "Only the ones I like!" Lisa said before she could think. She closed her eyes and cursed silently. She had revealed something, she shouldn't have. Matt smiled widely at the admission, Emily was right, she did like him, but he would have to take it slow. "I see. Well, why don't I take you out for lunch at the local cafe? Nothing fancy, and you could choose the date. " Matt said. "I can choose?" Lisa asked, trying to hide her shock. She was used to alpha males wanting to control every move she made, especially in dating. It almost drove her insane. Maybe, just maybe, this man was different. "Sure, why not?"  "OK, well, Mr Maldonado, you have yourself a date," Lisa said with a smile. "Fantastic, and when do you want to do it?" Matt said, hoping the question would not scare her off. Her answer shocked him. "Well, I am hungry after all that weeding. Why not give me five minutes to clean up and we can grab something at the cafe down the road?" "Of course!" "Matt said as he watched her turn and go upstairs. It suddenly occurred to Matt, that he would wait forever for this woman.
