Chapter 27: Christening.

1697 Words
Matt was feeling contented today. It had been a couple of weeks since the beating from Alannah, and he had spent it reconnecting with his old friends. He spent time training or exploring London with his friend, Bruce.  A pleasant couple of weeks had given him the strength to face the christening of Lilly Anne. It was not the christening that was the issue. Lily Anne needed less supervision than his so-called wife. Trina had dressed completely inappropriately for a baptism in a low-cut dress that barely covered her. She had to keep pulling the tightly fitting scarlet mini dress, otherwise, it would ride up her arse. She finished the outfit with high heels and a black clutch bag.  "For God’s sake, Trina, could you please change into something more appropriate? We are going to church! " Matt had snapped before the christening. "Oh, hush now, you needn’t worry, this is not for you! Tell me, have you found your little mouse yet? " Trina had mocked. "That is none of your business!" Matt had snapped. "I will take that as a no. You will be happy to know she has gone up in my estimation. You obviously have enough intelligence to see who you really are! " Trina had jeered. "And who is that, Trina? Please enlighten me with wisdom! " "A cruel man who knows he can never compare to his eldest brother!" Trina had said before, laughing maniacally. The whole argument had not angered Matt; it just made him miss Lisa even more. Matt sighed at the lunch table. He had been lucky that Trina had behaved and kept her alcohol consumption to a minimum at the church. But now that they were at lunch, Trina had begun to drink much more heavily. Worse, she was constantly trying to flirt with every man that came within touching distance. Matt did his best to ignore her behaviour; confronting her would only cause a commotion. The day turned into evening, and they all sat down to eat once more. Matt took time to look around the hall. It was a large hall with a domed glass roof. The hall was decorated in the traditional style with gold leaf plaster and dark green walls. There was a huge crystal chandelier that hung from the centre of the room. It glittered in the light and was mesmerising. "I said, how is Brazil?" A male voice said, and Matt suddenly came back into the real world.  "It is fine, warm and beautiful as always, Aiden. How are things in the sea gang world? " Matt said with a smile at Aiden, who was seated opposite them with his twin brother and wife. Aiden and his identical twin brother were Canadian princes, or heirs to the Canadian syndicate chair. They had married Bee (Bonny) Clearwater, the Siren or leader of all the sea gangs. They had recently had triplets, which were keeping the three of them on their toes.  "The sea gangs? Why would you ask about those idiots? " Trina scoffed. "What did you just say?" Ethan growled. "What has spent too much time in the water made you deaf? Oh, no, I know what it is! You are spending so much time with the sea gangs that it has dimmed your intellect. Your parents must have been devastated when they found out you were polluting your bloodline with fish blood! " Trina said before cackling. "How dare you? How dare you speak to my wife in such a manner? " Aiden roared. Oh, I forgot, you both married her, didn’t you? There is less double trouble and more double disappointment. At least for the twins' parents, " Trina jeered as she looked Bee up and down in disgust.  "Trina, shut up! How can you be so rude to my friends? " Matt hissed. The twins were about to get up and cause a scene when Bee calmly put her hands on the twins' arms to calm them. It is funny that you bring up disappointment and marriage. From what I heard, you were to be married to Matt’s brother. Though I do think the disappointment is more from Matto’s side, don’t you? I bet he envies the people who have yet to meet you. " Bee said with a small smile. Trina looked confused and shocked. "What is the matter, Trina? Didn’t you understand what I said? Let me help you out. "Bee said before repeating the message in perfect Brazilian Portuguese. "You... you speak Portuguese?" Trina stuttered. "Our wife speaks many languages," Aiden said, smiling at his wife and holding her hand. "Yes, she has a double first from Oxford in accounting and Modern Languages. Now, who is the i***t? " Ethan asked as he nuzzled his wife’s neck, not caring about the public display of affection.  "Oh, my darlings!" Bee said as she kissed them both.  Matt’s heart ached as he suddenly realised why Alannah Bee and the twins sat on his table. Alannah knew that Bee was more than capable of keeping peace between them all. "It's still not natural!" Trina grumped. "It is more natural than marrying someone you don’t love to gain power and wealth. I think there is a name for women that sell themselves like that. " Bee said with a sly grin on her face. "Now, now, darling. Have a bit of mercy. She is the wife of our good friend." Aiden cooed. "Please accept my apology on behalf of my wife and the syndicate," Matt said. "Don't be concerned, Matt; we're used to it."Bee, my love, why do you keep staring at the glass dome? " Aiden asked as he looked up. "Godros! Godros! " Bee suddenly said, and the twins jumped up and flipped the table. "Red vixen!" Aiden called, and Alannah’s head shot up. She quickly flipped the table and got behind it. She dragged Kurt behind it. Bee had used the Cornish word for "threat" to the twins, who had instantly warned Alannah by using her old nickname. "What is going on?" Matt asked as he was pulled down by Aiden. Suddenly, twenty men dressed in black came crashing through the glass dome on ropes. There was instant panic as guns were fired at the guests.  "We are pinned down!" Aiden said as he crouched over Bee with his body, protecting her. "Will you get down here, Trina?" Matt shouted above the gunshots. "Why? They won’t be after me! " Trina said with a shrug. "But you could still be shot!" "No, they are just doing it for effect!" Trina said as she sipped her champagne as some of the security guards came in.  Unfortunately, they were quickly dealt with, and the leader of the guards ordered for the door to be locked before saying, "Well, isn’t this a nice little party? I am almost sorry that I didn’t get an invite! " "Let the women and children go! According to the gang code, they should be released and your demands made! " Kurt shouted. "Now, why would I do that? We are not bound by the stupid gang code! " The leader mocked. "So, what is it you want?" Kurt shouted again. "This does not look good!" James muttered to Kurt as he peeked over the table. "Don’t worry, help is on the way! No one is causing harm to my Goddaughter!" Hannah said calmly as she lit a cigarette. Hannah was the best friend of Alannah's and the owner of an underground fighting ring, the Jaded Moon. She was known as the person to go to if you needed information, resources or favours of any kind.  "Hannah! " Alannah hissed, and Hannah looked at Lilly Anne in Alannah’s arms. She quickly put out the cigarette before saying, "sorry!" "Our demands are simple; you will join the Breaking Wheel and sign over all your gang assets to Mark Hurst!" The leader of the guard said. "I would rather die than join that murdering smear stain!" Kurt roared.  " Yes, you f*****g scumbags! Put the guns down and we'll show you how we do things up North! " The leader of the Magpie Gang shouted from behind his table. "We'll see how you feel after we execute a few women. Who shall we start with?" The leader's voice stopped making words and instead made a gasping sound. When Kurt put his head on the table, he saw the leader with an arrow protruding out of his head. Blood poured out before he fell down dead. Confusion swept over the group as they tried to work out where the archer was positioned. However, several more arrows came whizzing down from the holes in the glass dome, hitting the intruders with deadly accuracy. "What the hell is happening?" Kurt asked. "Who cares? He has killed ten intruders!" James, Kurt’s second-in-command, exclaimed. "I suggest you cover your eyes and ears!" Hannah said as she got out infant-sized headphones that blocked out the noise. She quickly put them on Lilly Anne, who clapped happily.  Just then, an arrow whizzed down and hit the floor. It beeped a couple of times before exploding and letting out a blinding flash of light and an ear-piercing noise. Everyone in the room was temporarily blinded and deafened.  It was then that a masked figure crashed through the dome glass and abseiled effortlessly. The figure had a bow and quiver on its back. However, in their hand, they had a kyoketsu-shoge: a double-edged blade, with another curved blade attached near the hilt at a 45–60 degree angle. This was attached to approximately 10 to 18 feet (3–5 m) of chain. The masked figure wasted no time in swinging it and, with dance-like moves, controlled the blade to kill the remaining intruders. Meanwhile, the guests, who had recovered their sight and hearing, stood up to observe the masked figure in the centre of the now-dead intruders. They were shocked to learn that the masked figure had killed 20 men with guns in less than 10 minutes. "You are late!" Hannah loudly moaned. The masked figure turned to Hannah, swinging their blood-soaked kyoketsu-shoge.
