Chapter 35: Crystal Carvern

"You can relax for now. There's training in the evening." Dira said before leaving the training field. Everyone headed for their meals. After that, there were some who came back to the training field to train with one goal in mind, to be the best. At this time, Trevor made his way to the library and continued increasing his knowledge of magic. This time, he picked a book about beasts and studied it. Ever since he saw the majestic beast earlier today, he developed a desire to own one. Just like mages, beasts were also ranked. And the static wolf he saw earlier was a silver rank. An extremely powerful rank. And if Merza managed to obtain one, he had to be a silver rank at minimum. After spending a couple of hours in the library, the gile's wails filled the atmosphere. Promptly, everyone headed to the training ground and did the daily routine. After two hours, the training finally ended with exhaustion filling everyone's body. As the others headed to their rooms, Trevor made his way to the headmaster's office. He knocked twice before making his way in. "Good. About time." Dira said when he saw Trevor, "Step aside." Trevor promptly shut the door behind him and did as he was told. Immediately, locks appeared on the door and locked themselves. If anyone wanted to male his way into the office, they would be greeted with an air-tight door. "We leave now..... Are you ready?" Dira said with a solemn look. "Yes." After getting the answer he wanted, Dira drew a series of runes before they dazzled goldenly. And immediately, the runes morphed into a human-sized green portal. *Mount Sogar* A green portal formed in a forest outside mount Sogar. Two beings stepped out of the spatial c***k majestically. Shortly after, the portal shrunk until it disappeared completely. The sound of crickets made its way to Trevor's ears as he surveyed the dark forest. The thick canopy made it impossible to look at the sky. "That's odd....." Dira said in thought. This place was supposed to be filled with beasts. But it looked empty, with only crawling insects moving around the place. "Let's proceed. I'll lead the way," he said before waking in front of Trevor. Trevor followed right behind him while keeping his guard constantly. After walking for some time, Trevor realized that they had been ascending in altitude all this time and it didn't look like they were going to stop any time soon. After an hour of walking, the wizard suddenly halted; "We're here." he said before stretching out his arm and tapped the air in front of him. This scene made him look like he had gone insane but Trevor knew otherwise. After feeling the air for a while, the wizard's hand halted at a particular point. He then tapped that area and a block-sized lighting button appeared. He didn't take his hand off the block but slid it in a zig-zagged pattern that really confused Trevor until it stopped at a particular point making a click sound. Immediately the sound of gears turning filled the atmosphere and disappeared five seconds after. "I don't get it. Was something supposed to happen?" Trevor thought to himself. The wizard simply smiled as if guessing Trevor's thoughts. He slowly stepped forward and disappeared into thin air. Trevor's eyes widened in shock. He rubbed his eyes to make sure he was seeing right. But then, the wizard's arm reappeared and made a come-here gesture before retracting again. Trevor did as the wizard gestured and moved forward. And all of a sudden, the scenery changed. From the dark thick forest to a light vegetated forest. The wizard stood right in front of him flashing him a playful smile. Looking behind him, there was no trace of the dark forest but rather a steep mountain and a busy city at the foot of the mountain. "Welcome to Mount Sogar," Dira said. Just as Trevor was about to open his mouth to say something, he noticed a human-shaped shadow approaching them from a cave. As if Dira had already sensed his presence, he turned around and bowed; "Oh great Wizard Barbech. We seek your help." The shadow didn't stop moving until an old man in a purple robe emerged. He held a great metallic staff in his right hand with a fist-sized crystal at the top of the staff. His long gray-white hair fell down over his shoulders till half is his back. His eyes were rather odd. He had white irises which made him look like an ancient demon. The wrinkles on his face showed he had seen it all. "I've been expecting you. Follow me." The wizard Barbech said before turning and heading back inside the cave. Without further hesitation, both Dira and Trevor followed Barbech into the cave. The scene inside the cave was beautiful. And Trevor couldn't help but drool. The same applied to Dira. The cave's walls were illuminated with dazzling crystals. There was no need to light a lamp inside this cave. The crystals would do the job. And they weren't just any crystals, they were mana crystals. The second thing all mages desired. In fact, with these, rising in ranks would be successful. In the past, this crystal cavern was a blessing by the gods and was free to the public. It was the thing that supplied and controlled the influx of mana in Tenkai. But with this great power, people started becoming greedy. They wished to mine the mana crystals for themselves. Which wasn't a problem at first. They were allowed to mine at least one mana crystal a year. But their greed got the best of them. They fantasized about selling these mana crystals to other nations and make a fortune for themselves. While others wished to obtain them for themselves so as to limit the growth of others. A war over the crystal cavern soon broke out and thousands of lives went down the drain. With that, The God Sogar, hid the cavern in Mt. Sogar and left a powerful wizard as a protector in case someone stabled upon it. People now believed that the cavern was destroyed. And those who had a clue of where it was couldn't locate it even though they searched the entire Mount Sogar. They would always get lost in the dark thick forest. Dira and Trevor followed Barbech through the cave's passage until they were in a big room in the cave. The mana crystals embedded in the walls in this room were several folds more than the ones in the passage. There was an ancient throne in the room. And a tripod right next to it with a crystal ball on top of it. The great wizard made his way to the throne and took his seat. "What is it that you seek help with?" Barbech said with an imposing aura. "uhh! My boy here..... Possesses no tasabar." "So?" Barbech willed his eyes "It isn't what you're thinking great wizard.....he just so happened he can use some magic though he is only human. I have run an identification spell on him but the results come back as unknown." "Hmmm..... Interesting. This has to be complicated." the great wizard pondered. "Youth... Please step forward," he said as he stretched his arm to touch the crystal ball beside him. Without hesitation, Trevor did as he was told. The wizard stretched out his other arm and placed his index finger on Trevor's forehead. He closed his eyes and sucked in a deep breath before prying them wide open. The mana inside the crystal ball started swirling and dazzling with a blue hue. That same color could be seen cover both Barbech and Trevor's eyes. Immediately, the mana in the cave grew denser and denser as a force field formed around the two. Dira, who watched from the side was rendered motionless when he saw the mana increase. Though he couldn't see the other elemental mana, he could see air white mana for the category he belonged to. He could only imagine how crazy the world around him would look if all the elemental mana had been multiplied. A short second later a shock wave sent the wizard's finger away from Trevor and the forcefield broke. Making both their eyes return to their original colors. But the wizard looked like he just came from a long marathon. With his breathing breaking constantly, he struggled to catch his breath. It took a moment for the wizard to stabilize his breathing but he still looked pale. "What did you find out great wizard?" Dira asked. "This is a serious matter...." Barbech stretched both his arms and immediately mana from the crystals served into him bringing him back to peak condition. For Trevor, all he saw was the wizard taking a deep breath and stabilizing. Dira looked on enviously for he knew otherwise. " He has been sealed. And not just any type of seal. The darkest type. I couldn't contain so I had to pull away immediately. This is serious. Young man.." Dira switched his gaze to Trevor, you need to break the seals as soon as possible or else... " "Or else what?" "The darkness will consume you. If you let that happen, doom awaits. " the wizard answered seriously.
