Chapter 37: Iron rank

The vulture opened its beak once again to shoot acid at Dira. At this moment Trevor leaped from a tree, swinging the sword Dira gave to him, aiming for a patch of skin on the Vultures neck that had no feathers. But then, as if sensing danger, the vulture turned its head around. "Crap!" Trevor cursed for he had been noticed. And he was currently airborne, he couldn't change the trajectory he had earlier aimed for. With just a swing of its wing, the vulture knocked Trevor aside. Crushing into a tree before hitting the ground. The Vulture suddenly changed targets and rushed for Trevor. Trevor only smiled in disdain as he watched the vulture charge at him at full speed. "I don't really want to use this at this time." without further delay, Trevor activated his weapons encasing magic. And immediately, the sword he held suddenly lit up in flame. He then dashed head-on for the vulture. The vulture struck its razor-sharp beak at Trevor. Of which Trevor blocked off with the sword in his hands. "Such strength!" Trevor exclaimed when he felt his arms go numb from the impact. The vulture retracted its beak and opened it as it prepared to launch acid at Trevor. But then, 10 air arrows flew straight for the Vultures back and struck its feathers. Dira cursed at the culture's defense. Although his arrows were basically arrows made out of air. They were one of his lethal attacks. Cause the air that formed the arrows was extremely concentrated with gave it the mass of a solid. But they barely managed to land a scratch on the vulture. Having been attacked, the vulture turned around and switched its target to Dira in anger. And prepared to charge at him. Just as it pried its beak open to shout acid at Dira, Trevor sliced his sword at the Vultures back. Forcing the vulture to turn back to him. After witnessing the scene before, Trevor now knew that the. Vulture had extremely low intelligence and would launch an attack at whoever it felt more intimidated with. This was sort of an advantage. After knowing this, killing the culture won't be an impossible task. Dira was no fool, just like Trevor he top discovered this weakness. Now, both of them exploited this weakness and toyed around with the vulture. But none of their attacks could even scratch the bird. Which frustrated all of them a lot. Moreover, Trevor didn't have much time until his abilities expired. They launched attacks desperately trying to injure the vulture but all were in vain. During the attacks, Trevor realized the with each attack they landed on the Vulture, its feathers would move the way calm water spread outwards when a drop of water landed in middle. He analyzed the situation and figured out the reasons. The Vulture's feathers would spread the impact around its body evenly completely ignoring the attack. If he could get rid of the feathers, then the task of killing it would be easy. He had been counting the time he had left with his magic and it was nearing the deadline. With only two seconds left. He immediately deactivated the fire sword and formed a fireball in his palm then launched it at the vulture's back. Immediately, the fireball landed on the vulture, it let out an agonizing scream. And fear was evident in its eyes. The flames didn't stop spreading around its body until it was completely on fire. In just 2 seconds, ash littered the ground where the vulture stood. And the previously ugly vulture now looked even uglier without feathers. It looked at both Trevor and Dira with a hint of fear evident in its eyes. It desperately shot acid in random directions. Dira frowned at this sight. If ever there was a point where a beast would become more dangerous, it would be when it turned berserk. The trees, where the acid landed, collapsed one by one. Both Trevor and wizard Dira had a hard time dodging the attacks. Trevor's shield had long since shuttered since he was constantly pulling the beast's aggro to himself. And Dira's was only a thread away from shuttering. Trevor turned tail and circled the vulture. He climbed a tree behind the vulture and jumped down landing on the vulture's back. Before the vulture could react, its head was sliced off. Trevor then jumped off the vulture's neck and landed softly on the ground. The vulture's body came falling to the ground and caused a loud thud. "That's more like it!" Trevor exclaimed when he sliced through the vulture easily. They both let out a sigh of relief after seeing the beast hit the ground. "Alright, let's hurry back." Dira said removing the sword from Trevor's hands. He then walked to where the beast's head fell and cut it open. He picked a metallic potion bottle with runes from his bag and placed it close to the beast's acid gland. He then pocked the acid gland softly which let out a green smoky substance that flowed into the bottle. "Perfect... Let's go." The two returned to where the rhinoceros' body was and waited patiently for the Vultures to depart. But this time, they watched the vultures and familiarized themselves with the intervals at which they departed and arrived before walking over. "Let's get this over with. It's about time we head back." the wizard said putting the smelly skin in a secluded bag. He then drew familiar runes and a green portal was formed again. They both jumped in and were now in the dark forest that was an entrance of the Crystal cavern. Trevor looked at the familiar dark forest in awe. The entire place was illuminated with various glowing flying insects. And there forest's ground was illuminated by glowing mushrooms. This place now looked like an afterlife paradise. "I'm guessing, you're new in Tenkai. Those are midnight creatures. That is how we tell if it's midnight here." Dira said when he saw Trevor's awestruck face. The wizard searched the air again. Just as he did previously. When he found the block, he moved it in a familiar pattern, and the two walked into the cavern's hidden location. The reason they couldn't teleport directly into the cavern was because of the protection mechanism the cavern possessed. In case anyone had made their way to the cavern, they couldn't simply teleport back. The cavern would relocate the anchored location to that dark forest and would have to locate the security block and move it in the right pattern. Teleportation was all about the user's current location and anchored location. In order to anchor a location, one simply needed to think of the place and would appear there. The person would teleport to a void space first before being expelled into the anchored location. Take a piece of paper for example. Then draw two points, A and B at either end of the paper. Join them using a straight line. It is said that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. In the world of magic, that is completely wrong. If you fold that piece of paper around to make points A and B close, the distance between them obviously decreases. That was how teleportation worked. And the remaining space between these two points would be the void space. A place neither here nor there. For a person to teleport successfully, they needed to step into the void space first then into the anchored location. But most people in Tenkai didn't know this for the time they spent in the void space was immensely short that they couldn't see it. Only gods had mastered teleportation into the void space and could spend most of their time there. "Uhh... You did well out there!" Barbech who sat on his throne praises with a playful smile. "You think?"Trevor rolled his eyes at the wizard. "Here are the items you asked for..." Dira said handing over two bags. One with gold coins and the other with the hide. As the wizard handed over the gold, he felt a sharp sting at the loss of 10 gold. "Hopefully, my investment in this kid must be worth it." he thought to himself. " Good... "Barbech said. His eyes shone as he looked at the items. Putting them away, he said," Good..... I prepared the potion while you were away. " He then handed over a tiny potion glass portal to Trevor. Trevor immediately drank the colorless liquid and waited; "What was supposed to happen? Is it done?" Dira too, thought that dark smoke would evaporate from Trevor. But that didn't happen. Barbech simply flashes them a playful smile, "Wait for it" After another five seconds, Trevor could feel a tingling sensation all over his body. "Yeah, I fe..." Before he could finish his sentence, he let out an agonizing scream. All the muscles and tissue in his body clenched at a rate visible to both Dira and Barbech. Trevor fell to his knees in pain gritting his teeth profusely. But the burning pain in his body didn't seem to be ending soon. He tried his best to keep in his screams but couldn't. For a full hour, Trevor's screams echoed through the cavern. But all of a sudden, the pain was replaced by a warm feeling all over his body. It was like it just exploded. By the time his eyes again, he realized he was lying on the ground. But as he stood up, he quickly fell back on his knees as his stomach clenched. And immediately, a completely dark substance was expelled from his mouth. "Eww." Dira looked away in disgust. The dark substance that landed on the ground pumped like a heart and gave off a weird sound as it evaporated into the air as if it were dying. After the substance completely disappeared, Trevor stood up slightly disgusted by what came out of his body. Immediately, he rolled up his sleeve and checked for a tasabar. And there, he saw a round-like tattoo. "Stone rank?" he said slightly disappointed. But at least he finally had a tasabar now.
