Money farm

The usual unpleasant screeching sound of the Gail in the morning woke the school from its rest. But something was rather off this time. When Trevor climbed down his bed and stretched a bit. He felt rather relaxed and refreshed. Something he hadn't felt for days. Though he was feeling downhearted, he couldn't help the feeling that something had changed in him. Well, so long for that thought! The sun rays that slipped through the cracks of the window explained the feeling. They had overslept it! But just to confirm, he walked to the window and opened it wide. Just like he had thought. It was about 7 am. This was rather unusual.? "Just as surprised as you," Isaac's hoarse morning voice resounded in the room. "What's going on?" Trevor asked, his gaze lingering somewhere outside. As he enjoyed the feeling of morning sun rays falling on his skin. Before Isaac could yawn out a reply, another Gail screech pierced his ear. "Mmm." He gritted his teeth while covering his ears from the deafening sound, "Gosh I hate that bird. Come one....looks like we're about to find out." He said pushing himself out of bed. And stretching his arms out wide before heading out of the room lazily. "Attention!" A burly man in gladiator armour yelled seriously, striding back and forth as he looked down at the students. And as he commanded, everyone stopped their murmur and stood upright after stumping their feet once and saluting. "Good." The man smirked. "I will be happy to inform you that your training ends here from now on." He halted his movements and patiently waited for their reactions. And as expected, an excited murmur arose at the assembly. He could even see some students at the back jump up in excitement. "Shut up." He yelled, "But not for the slaves. Your training goes on as usual. You will be representing the school in the school's gladiatorial tournament." Though he could still see disappointed frowns and sighs as a result of his announcement, the majority who were cheerful and excited made him smile. Not because he was happy for them. He was smiling at their foolishness. "The rest of you, The school can't offer you this free service of extreme combat. You paid to study magic. And magic is what you will get. Disappointing right, you won't be able to make the game you desire. Let's leave that for our street friends here. They deserve something good in life right." A playful smirk formed on his face as he held his hands behind his back and raised his chest. "That's it." He whispered when he got the reaction he had anticipated. This time, there were more disappointed faces than excited ones. "You didn't like the training right? So this is where it ends. If you wish to participate in the gladiatorial championship and earn the fame and extreme wealth you want, sorry you will have to pay for your training. And you will have to sign a contract with the school. We are not responsible for any death or injuries faced during the fight. You have the right to decide what you want. Talk to your guardians. You can for your classes now." With that, the burly man matched away along with his two companions that held spears. "What the hell.........the school board is wicked. They are trying to damp on us this harsh punishment they call training without arousing suspicion." Someone exclaimed. * "Sir......" The burly gladiator greeted, after inviting himself in. "Is it done!" Merza said, and a serious yet low tone as he played with a spelling star in his hands. "Yes sir, it's done. For now, I don't think any of them will sign up. As per the prediction, they will soon realize the importance of this. The good part, we won't have to be responsible for their deaths after signing up. It's a win-win. I have to say, sir, this is a brilliant idea. No school has thought of this yet. They are all in for the reward after the tournament. But have no idea of the losses they will have to face. With this plan, we are in a completely safe spot from the worldwide act of schools 332. We won't have to compensate anyone for anyone's death." The gladiator said a faint satisfied smile on his face. A smirk formed on Merza's lips, clenching his fist and ending the magical pattern on his hand. He ran his eyes along the table making sure to decipher everyone's expressions. "You were asking why I implemented such a rule right? Now you know. Does anyone else have any objections?" He rose from his seat and held his hands behind his back. After a moment of silence in the board room, someone raised her hand. "What is it, Stella?" Merza asked, displeasure evident in his tone. It wasn't a secret that the young redhead and Merza were rivals. And not on the board, their rivalry went beyond one could imagine. One would even think they were born to be nemeses from the way they glared at each other. Their sibling rivalry was beyond what they had seen before. "Won't that mean we shall have fewer competitors for the tournament?" She asked with a proud tone. And a smile rose on her lips when she got the reaction she wanted. The board members nodded their heads in agreement and murmured among themselves. "If you were all listening carefully, you would know that this is a foolproof plan. The fact that gladiatorial fights have recently become a sensation is known by everyone. Even the magicless, can now rank at the Peak of society from this. All the power, fame and wealth that could be got overnight is a sure temptation. And the reason for this development is the introduction of magic to gladiatorial fights. Yes being a gladiator has only been a hobby by the magic-less who are tired of their life. But the day those two foolish pigs brought their fight to the amphitheatre, the hobby earned the right to become a real job. We, the mages, have always viewed this as a childish s*******r game, but now, it has all changed. Mages can be gladiators too. Thanks to those two bratty pigs. And ideally, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. That's why the council implemented it in schools. And we all know it has something to do with their unknown plans. They believe the mages will reach their full potential. Which is true. So, these rich bratty kids have no choice if they want a future. I didn't agree with this whole concept, but the idea Dira and Gira brought, can turn this into a money farm for us. They simply passed on the rule that schools must start gladiatorial training. But not how. Well, ours is going to be paid and of free will. We plan on earning more from this through the tournaments. We shall have all the fighters we need. Funny thing is that they will have to pay to become fighters. Gladiatorial fights are the new big thing." He picked took a purple crystal ball from his guard's hands and rolled it on the table. "Any objections now." He took his seat once again and locked gazes with Stella who glared at him furiously. A mocking smile appeared on his poker face. Now everyone was on board with his plan as expected. One by one, the 12 board members touched the crystal ball and it flickered with each touch as it unregistered the truth sect. * "Trevor," Tony called, nudging Trevor on the shoulder. Bringing him out of his depressed daze. "Were you listening to whatever I said?" He asked rolling his eyes at him. "Tsk tsk tsk..... So I've wanted all my precious breath for nothing." Tony started his scolding. But Trevor still, didn't pay any attention. Trevor's motivation was completely shuttered the moment he received his evaluation card that night. What was the point to continue playing these dungeons if he had no hope at all?! It was extremely disappointing to find out there were others like him; But had long since reached his level at a way younger age. Defective blood! Kept on playing in his head nonstop. What did that mean? Suddenly, he was knocked out of his daze when he felt the hard ground against his chest and stomach. His books had scattered in front of him and a muffled sound of laughter reached his ears. Someone had tripped him! Helping himself up, he dusted his clothes with his hands and looked for the person that tripped him. It didn't need to take that long to find him.
