Brian stood not far from the woman, his real blind date, who was waiting for him. His left hand rested on his waist while his right hand was placed on his chest. His breath was still uneven, rising and falling with the rhythm of his heartbeat.
Disturbing the granddaughter of the country's most powerful person? Clearly, that could cause him serious trouble!
Once his breathing had steadied, Brian adjusted his appearance before walking over to her.
"Hi!" he greeted her.
The woman before him shot him a sharp look, scrutinizing him from head to toe. Realizing that this was the man she had been waiting for, she stood up.
"Why are you so late? Do you know how long I've been waiting? This is our first meeting, and you’re already late! I can't believe it! Thank goodness I still have some patience left, or I would have left a long time ago!" she scolded, her tone sharp and frustrated.
Brian pressed his lips together, noticing people around them were watching. He certainly had a reason for being late, but it wasn’t something he could explain—that he had already been at the café earlier and had even met the wrong woman by mistake.
"I'm really sorry, Miss..."
"Wexler. Marry Wexler!" Her voice was still gruff.
"Yes, Miss Wexler. Thank you for waiting. I apologize for the bad first impression. If you don't mind, please sit down for a moment. Let me order something for you."
Marry flipped her hair in irritation. However, as she took in Brian's handsome face and sturdy build, she decided to give him a chance to prove himself.
"Fine!"
Brian smiled. He ordered two drinks as Marry requested. While they waited for the drinks to be prepared, they chatted and introduced themselves, starting with Marry before moving on to Brian.
"What? You're an obstetrics nurse?!"
"Yes."
"Are you crazy? What makes you think you’re good enough for a blind date when you’re just an obstetrics nurse? Do you think I’m some kind of random woman? Listen, I've rejected plenty of greater men before. Ugh, I regret wasting my time on someone like you."
In the middle of Marry's outburst, the waiter arrived carrying two cups of coffee on a tray. "Your orders, Sir, Miss."
Without acknowledging the waiter's politeness, Marry grabbed one of the cups before it was even placed on the tray, intending to pour it over Brian.
The waiter was clearly shocked by how quickly things had escalated right before his eyes. He couldn't stop his jaw from dropping.
Meanwhile, Brian simply closed his eyes, feeling the cold coffee drip down his face. He was grateful it was iced coffee, not hot. When he opened his eyes again, Marry was already standing there, waiting to deliver her final warning.
"Don’t ever come near me again!" And with that, she walked away.
Seeing Brian in such a sorry state, the male waiter, still frozen in place, extended a tissue box toward him.
"I’m fine," Brian said with a smile before taking a few tissues to wipe his face.
Not wanting to stay any longer as the center of attention for the other café patrons, Brian pulled out his wallet, took out some bills, and placed them on the table.
"Keep the change," he said to the waiter before walking out of the café.
On his way home, riding his scooter, something caught Brian's attention. He saw a woman about to be harassed by three thugs. Without a second thought, Brian sped over and shouted, "Stop!"
The woman, who was almost the victim of the thugs, looked up in surprise. She screamed, "Brian!"
Brian's eyes widened in disbelief as he realized the woman was Celine. He hadn't noticed her face earlier, blocked by the thugs. Still on his scooter, he quickly got off and left it behind.
"Is he your boyfriend?!" one of the bald thugs barked, gripping Celine’s jaw, clearly annoyed that his fun had been interrupted.
Brian's jaw hardened. He quickly choked the bald man's neck until he could hardly breathe. His grip on Celine was automatically released.
“You bastard! Let go of our friend, or you'll die!”
Brian signaled Celine to move away. After Celine took some distance, instead of releasing his grip, Brian raised his arm, making the bald thug's legs float above the ground.
The bald thug's face turned red and almost out of breath. No matter how hard he tried to remove Brian's hand from his neck, he failed.
Not wanting their friend to die, the other two thugs also attacked Brian. However, Brian used the bald thug as his shield. As a result, the kicks and punches from the thugs, hit their own friend.
The screams of pain from the bald thug were followed by the groans of the other thugs after receiving hard fists from Brian. He went on a rampage, beating the thugs mercilessly.
“This man is crazy! Let's leave before we die,” said a terrified thug, echoed by his colleagues. They chose to run away.
Of course, Brian wasn't going to just let them go. However, Celine held back his hand, “Enough, Brian.”
Brian was about to release Celine’s hand to chase after the thugs. However, upon noticing the trembling of her hand, the tears streaming down her face, and her disheveled appearance, Brian chose instead to embrace her.
“It’s okay, you’re safe now.” Brian gently rubbed Celine's head.
After she calmed down, Celine spoke, “Thank you. I don’t know what would have happened if you hadn’t come to help me.”
“No problem. I’m just glad I wasn’t too late. Um, wait a minute.” Brian took off his suit and draped it over Celine’s shoulders.
Celine blushed as she looked at the black suit now covering her body. When she looked back at Brian, she furrowed her brow. “Your shirt…”
Brian saw the coffee stain contrasting sharply with his white shirt. He smiled. “It was a little incident earlier. That’s why I came home early, and ended up meeting you again.”
Marry squinted, suspecting something had gone wrong with Brian’s blind date, but she didn’t intend to ask about it.
Instead, Celine offered, “What if I asked you to become the Head of Security at BigNil Corporation? Would you accept? You wouldn’t be directly handling security, but rather selecting and supervising the guards’ performance. Or if you prefer, I could make you a manager at one of the companies under BigNil Corporation. Just tell me which city you’d like to work in.”
“There’s no need for that. I enjoy my profession as it is.”
“Are you sure? Brian, this is an opportunity for you to get a better job, and it could also solve your romantic troubles.”
Brian chuckled softly. “I think a woman who truly loves me wouldn’t mind what job I have. Besides, my profession isn’t that bad.”
“Yeah, yeah, I understand. But I have to give you something to help me. Wait a second.”
Celine took a piece of paper from her bag and wrote something on it with her pen. “Here, take this,” she said, offering the paper.
It turned out that Celine wanted to give Brian a check for one million dollars.
Brian’s eyes widened when he saw the number. But then, he gently pushed Celine’s hand away.
“Thank you for your kindness, Miss, but I helped you sincerely. Even if it weren’t you, I would still help. So, please don’t feel obligated to give me anything, because I don’t expect it.”
Celine froze, looking at Brian’s smile, which seemed to grow more charming by the moment. ‘Is there really a man like this in the world? Why didn’t I meet him sooner?’ she thought to herself.
Celine smirked, suddenly realizing she had been wishing she had gotten to know Brian earlier.
Not long after, a taxi pulled up and stopped in front of them. “Mr. Knight?” the driver asked, rolling down the window.
“Yes, that’s me.” Brian opened the car door for Celine. “After you. Sorry, I can’t drive you home.”
Celine cast a glance at the road and laughed silently. ‘Damn!’ she thought, deeply impressed by Brian’s personality and demeanor. She didn’t even know he had ordered a taxi for her.
“Your suit?” Celine asked, trying to keep her desire to spend more time with Brian from being too obvious.
“You can return it later or keep it. It wasn’t expensive.”
They laughed together before parting ways.
After ensuring Celine was safe, Brian continued his ride home. He was slightly disappointed that his blind date had failed, but he didn’t regret going to the Coffee Café, even though his shirt ended up stained.
When he arrived home, he said, “I’m home.”
Brian smiled and tried to appear fine as he opened the door. He didn’t want to worry his mother. But as soon as he stepped inside, his smile faded when he saw the guest sitting on the sofa.
“Miss Wexler?”
